Multiple Teams Looking At Kielty

UPDATE: The Red Sox signed Kielty.

Bobby Kielty is a 31 year-old switch-hitting outfielder.  He can typically draw a few walks and hit lefties.  He can handle the corner outfield positions but hasn't played center with any regularity since 2002.  Kielty is a free agent now after being released by the A's.

According to the Boston Herald, Kielty is receiving interest from the Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs, Diamondbacks, and Astros.  The Herald mentions Kielty's ties to New England, while the San Francisco Chronicle considers him the favorite.  Question: why would the Astros be interested?

I hate how the Yankees are involved in every rumor. They don't want Kielty, and they certainly don't need him. There is literally no place for him on their roster, none whatsoever.

What he said.

You can take the Astros, and Yankees off the list. The Red Sox want him, but don't have a roster spot for him at least not for 25 more days.

"He can typically draw a few walks and hit lefties."

Is there anything the Cubs need more????

Gordon Edes has the Red Sox signing him but doesn't know if its going to be a minor league deal or not.

Sounds like Boston to me.

Not joe morgan it certainly sounds like a red sox type player but why do you mention his skin color? i find that to be out of line.

Kielty would give the Cubs pretty much what Murton gives the Cubs. Red Hair included.

Has there been any mention of the Twins interest in bringing Kielty back? It makes a lot of sense considering their gaping hole in LF, Kielty's relatively inexpensive salary, and their inability to hit LHP's. He came up through their minor league system with Hunter and Cuddyer, et. al., and so wouldn't be a total foreigner in the clubhouse, either.

Thats a ignorant enough post to actually be Joe Morgan.

Some people just cant let the past go. Yes, Boston has a history of racism (as does the rest of the country). Let's ignore the fact that the majority of the top sports stars in the city today arent white. It's easier to just hang onto things from 20 to 30 years ago.

agreed...I'm pretty sure it is Joe. Hey, where does Carlos Lee play? If you answer Milwaukee, we have you nailed.

Question: why would the Astros be interested?
Answer: worst GM ever, hell, they guy's named after a skin disease. That can't be good for a club. Remember when Larry Eczema ran the Royals?

"... but why do you mention his skin color?"

To antagonize Sox fans about their less than admirable history?

Sounds like an idiot to me.

Because Big papi and ManRam defitely are white and they defitely both have red hair. The dam boston racists. According to Sheffield its the Yankees clubhouse where there is racism.

NJm is bringing up things from the 1940's. many teams and many people were racist back then. and as that article points out the Red sox new ownership is different so why are you bringing this up? The red sox aren't a racial team and don't mix this organization with one 70 years ago.

I'm almost 30 and I've lived in Boston my entire life (and happen to be black).

One doesn't have to go to the '40s to discuss race relations in Boston: Bill Russells numerous racist vandalisms on his randolph home in the 60's. The Bus Boycotts of the 70's. Ellis Burks not wanting to play here in the late 80's. Even Torii Hunter was quoted this year as saying that "playing in Fenway Park is the worst in the MLB - fans repeatedly screamming N-bombs after every catch he makes".

I understand that caucasian people get offended when a black person discusses racism - whether in the past or present - but poo-pooing it doesn't make it go away...it only underlies the problem.

Rotowold says the deal w/ BoSox is DONE (@6:24pm)

Good question why would the astros be interested?? Good answer, because the Astros have the worst GM in baseball!!

Bobby Kielty gives the Sox a solid bat against left handed pitchers and a decent glove with versatality (left, center, right, experience at 1st base). According to Sean MacAdams on weei (boston sports radio), he will be starting tonight for Pawtucket

It will just be a short stay as he has an out clause if he's not promoted within a week. He went then on to add that he would fill the role occupied by free swinging Wily Mo Pena... thats right the Wily Mo era is nearing its end

king, don't forget those racist morons on eei...dennis and calahan. how they are still allowed on the airwaves is beyond me.

Most of us try to forget weei completely.
