According to Ken Rosenthal, both the Phillies and Padres are vying for the services of Geoff Jenkins. He's expected to choose one of the two clubs. The Rays are now out of the mix, having signed Cliff Floyd.
Both opportunities in Philly and San Diego would probably be platoon situations. Jenkins seems decent at one-year, $5MM, but I wonder if he'll require two years.

I think this would be a great pickup for the Phils. Jenkins is .288/.358/.525 vs. RH in his career, and Werth is .284/.378/.486 vs. LH. Even at two years I would like this. Not sure how he is defensively though.
Still, an efficient use of resources is hard to believe from the team that brought you the Adam Eaton signing.

I heard he wants two, which is a little much for a .260 hitter. Padres won't do that.

Phils need to go two years if that's what it takes. We need to find someway of replacing Rowand in the limeup. Granted, Jenkins more than likely won't have the season Rowand had, but he could come somewhat close.

Phillies should make a run at Brad Wilkerson. Worst case, he platoons with Werth. Best case, he gets back to the very good hitter he was in Montreal.

I'm with Bourne's identities...Geoff Jenkins and Jayson Werth would be a great platoon in right. And if the stats are to be believed, Jenkins is a league-average RF, if not slightly above-average. If the price is right, this could be a really solid two-year signing.

Im on board as well. I think this would be a solid pickup for us as well. Jenkins smashes RH pitching and I think Werth would get exposed as an everyday OF.
The best way to make up for Rowands production might be in house through every Phillie fans favorite...Pat Burrell.
If Pat the Bat can mash the ball like he did second half, he can provide the lost protection for Howard. a BIG IF but Ill give ya shot on your last go around with the Phils bud.

If they're going to add a LH RF to platoon with Werth, Jenkins is the guy I want but I was still hoping they'd find a RH 3B and let Dobbs platoon in right. It scares the hell out of me all the faith they have in Burrell all of a sudden. He's never hit well in the five hole.

I could see either one of these clubs sign Geoff Jenkins. Though I think the Padres have a better chance of signing Jenkins then the Phillies. However, Jenkins would hit a lot better in Great Citizen's Park [a hitter's park] rather than Petco Park [a pitcher's park.]

wow are phillies fans going to be disappointed with jenkins. He'll get his 20 homers, but he's only likely to drive in 60 runs or so and will strike out once per every 3.4 ABs as he has his whole career.
He will give the team NOTHING in clutch situations and will only pad his own stats when the game is already in hand.
Oh, and you may have heard he's great defensively, but that's only if you don't take range into account. He is among the league's worst in OF range.
Have fun watching JenKKKins strike out on balls bouncing at his ankles with runners on base. LOL
