« D'Backs Trade Quentin To White Sox For Chris Carter | Main | Sign Up For Baseball Prospectus »
Bruce Levine of ESPN 1000 went on air a few hours ago with some interesting tidbits regarding the Chicago teams. This was before the Sox acquired Carlos Quentin so I'm not sure what kind of effect that has on this info.

ohhh man. if Nick Swisher came to the Cubs, i would shed tears of joy.

I still see Fukudome as the cubs number one priority as of right now
If they do not get him, i could see the cubs trying to get Hudson to play second, and move DeRosa to right, or just get Swisher to play right and leave DeRosa at 2nd.
Could the cubs possible get both Fukudome and Swisher for their outfield?
Pie and Gallagher for Siwsher might be enough

The loser of the Mark Prior sweepstakes should just sign Wade Miller.

I'm hoping that Rowand stays out of Philly. I'm really looking forward to Jayson Werth starting in RF the entire year...

Nick Swisher? This is the first time I've heard his name pop up in the hot stove... is he even available?
I know in Beane's world no one is considered untouchable, but I'd have to figure Swish would be as close as you can get to untouchable on the A's.

What is a vesting option?
Posted by: StLknows | December 03, 2007 at 01:38 PM
A vesting option is an option that becomes automatic if the player reaches a certain level of performance.

Swisher would be an outstanding haul for the Cubs. He's entering his prime years.
As for Mark Prior, I would never, in a million years, think that Hendry would sell low on a player. He never sells low or buys high, thats for sure. Not. Hendry is fat and stupid.

I have to admit, I like the thought of Swisher. His OBP would be extremely helpful hitting in front of Ramirez...and I would give up Pie and another prospect for him. Whats his contract status like?

Swisher's not going anywhere...
Posted by: scatterbrian | December 03, 2007 at 01:58 PM
Swisher's signed for $24.55M over the next four seasons, plus a 2012 option for $10.25M.

6 million per year for another four seasons!!!!Yeah, he is not going anywhere. That is a very cheap price for the numbers that Swisher has been putting up.
If he was a FA right now, he could probably get inbetween 70-80 million over 5 years. probably even higher then that.

Swisher and Aramis would make a great 1-2 punch. Not hitting-wise, but in that both like to swing as hard as they can and shout expletives immediately after if the contact doesn't feel like a homerun. Get a little Bi-lingual foul mouthedness.

O-Dog to the Cubbies? What do the Cubs have to offer the Dbacks for Hudson? The Dbacks are in search of young starting pitching. Would the Cubs give up on Rich Hill? Can't see that happening.

Its funny, I was thinking of possible RF canidates with some power who the Cubs could make a move for. The main guy I though of was Swisher, but dont really know what Beane would want for him. Swisher would probably be great in Wrigley.

I understand where youre coming from, but Jason Werth killed us last year. Him, and J-Roll, and Utley, and Burrell, and Victorino, and Howard, and Marlon Anderson for running over Rollins or Utley and getting called out on interference on a ball that Shawn Green would have beaten out by like 5 steps. Imagine if that didnt happen the Mets could have made the playoffs by one game.

I could see the Cubs getting Hudson from the D-Backs, but it'd likely take Sean Gallagher as well as another player. The Cubs won't give up Rich Hill unless its for a star.
I would love to see the Cubs get Swisher, he could slide into that order and offer them a lot of things that the rest of that lineup cant. The only problem though is Beane would likely expect a huge return, Swisher is a Beane favorite as well. It'd likely take Pie, as well as maybe Sean Marshall. Whether thats a good idea for both teams seems questionable though.
