UPDATE, 12-5-07 at 1:52pm: Stark says that though the Mets inquired, there's little chance the Jays trade Burnett to them. They're trying to collect power arms for 2008.
FROM 12-5-07 at 1:54am:
According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Mets have inquired on Toronto's A.J. Burnett. Burnett's opt-out effectively puts him on a one-year deal, but worse.
Burnett is definitely the frontline type of guy the Mets have been looking for, despite the injury concerns. Those concerns plus the contract situation should definitely leave Burnett in the Mets' price range.

Interesting idea from Omar.
Have to wonder what Riccardi would demand, though. I know he's a pretty tough dealer.
Gomez and Heilman should do the trick, but I have a feeling that's not gonna cut it.

I cringe when I see the words AJ Burnett and frontline in the same sentence, but sadly 2 straight 10-8 seasons with sub-4 ERA in the AL East (69-66 3.76 career) qualifies as frontline these days.

I don't know what the Jays would want back, I'm not sure Gomez makes sense...Wells is locked in at center, they have Rios, Lind & Stairs in the outfield and Snyder should have a rapid ascension and be ready within a couple of seasons. Although Humber's stock has dropped I guess since it is Burnett for one year that may work although they may be able to get something similar at the deadline if they are out...even with his UFA status.

Any truth to this .

Kazmir to the Mets? As a Braves fan I hope not but if so Kudos to Omar.

@Jared78
The reason I suggested Gomez was because:
1) He's probably still a year or two away, so lots can happen in that time.
2) That "lots can happen" includes Rios going to the Giants, as Tim has informed us a couple of times in the last week or so.
Nothing for sure...just a preliminary idea. As for Heilman...well, you can never have enough bullpen arms, and he can even spot-start.
