Brewers Not Interested In Feliz

The Brewers have no interest in Pedro Feliz, according to Tom Haudricourt.  Not a big surprise; why would they trade Bill Hall to sign Feliz?  Hall seems likely to stay put, though it'd be surprising if Dave Bush, Claudio Vargas, and Chris Capuano all do.

Speaking of which, let's bust out an MLBTR survey!  Choose which of those three Brewer starters is most likely to be traded before the season begins.  You can see the results of the poll here.

Who would be? The guy is garbage.

Surprised no one else has commented about the pitchers that are available every time a Brewers topic is posted.

As a Phillies fan, I'd much rather see Capuano or Vargas in the rotation rather than Adam Eaton or JD Durbin.

As a Mets fan, I couldn't be happier that Adam Eaton is in the Phillies rotation.

As a Phils fan, I wouldn't mind Feliz at all on a 1 or 2 year contract at reasonable price.

I understand his OBP is crap, but like idea of good fielder at 3B with some HR pop. He projects to about 25 HR's in Citizen's bank Park and would be dangerous #7 hitter in that lineup.

All pitchers mentioned above are better than Eaton, so it would depend on price to get one of them.

Seems to me that they could trade Bill Hall and one of the three guys for some kind of impact SP. That would only work if they could get Feliz, but I think that would be a good idea if they could do it. Hall is a little frustrated with changing positions anyway. I would trade Hall and one or even two of those other pitchers to guy and get a SP worth something. At least a #3. They need help in that department, and Hall's offense would probably be offset by Feliz' gold glove defense. Just my thoughts on how the Brewers could get better. Feliz at 3rd makes all their pitchers better.

I'm actually shocked that the poll had cappy being most likely traded...his value is alot higher since he is a lefty and he was a one time all star not to long ago...being the hardworker he is i think the crew will have a great year out of cappy...i'd LOVE to see vargas on the way out...bush is too young with too much upside still to trade!!!

Aduncaroo- Suppan isn't a good #3? I think the Brewers are pretty well set at SP. They may not have a rotation like Boston, but it's certianly competitive with the rest of the NL Central. The key factor is that they don't have 1 starter that you are nervous about sending out to the mound. Heck, they have 8 guys fighting for 5 spots. Why would they want another? If they trade Hall, I would think it would be for a proven left handed bat that could either play third, or left field. That being said, I don't see them trading Hall. I think they are committed to the lineup they have at this point.

Well Cappy and Bush have the most value..Melvin seems like he Really wants to keep Cappuano, Cappy was very unlucky last year..and the thought is that Estrada along with the bad defense had alot to do with the Bad pitching.

I think some Brewer fans know that if Cappy is traded then that gives his rotation spot to 25 year old lefty Manny Parra...who finally had his first healthy year in a while..and regained that top prospect status he had 4 years ago.

I would like to see to one of them traded for a decent catching prospect..

Or Bush and Hall for Teahan...

anyway I am sure a deal will be made during Spring Training... once some of these Santana, Bedard, and Blanton deals get done...

Aduncaro- Hall at 3rd makes all the Pitchers better to...

Hall is an average 3rd basemen which is light years ahead of Historically bad Defense from Braun..

Cameron adds Gold Glove Defense to CF..which takes over for a guy in Hall that had his problems early but then became a Decent CFer..

Braun is a fast guy and will have a good range out there...he will become a plus OFer long before he would have ever been a plus 3rd basemen.

Plus the biggest part that has been improved is the fact that they have a VERY good Game Manager in Kendall behind the plate rather than Estrada... who fought with the Pitching Coach on pitch philospohy and who did not study weakness' and the up coming opponets. Zito and most of the other A's pitchers have always said that jason Kendall is a big part of their success, because he calls a flawless game.

I'm not saying Suppan isn't a good number 3. He is average for a #3, but there really isn't much "upside" to him, meaning you know what you are going to get. I would disagree about not being nervous about sending anyone to the mound, I would be REALLY nervous every pitch Sheets throws that he is going to injure himself. An ace who has never won more than 12 games (I know wins are a dumb stat, but 12 wins?) needs some insurance. Do you know what a Blanton type would do for your rotation?

Hall is average at third from what I can tell, which is light years above Braun. However, Feliz is light years above Hall defensively, and a Blanton level pitcher would be light years above your #5 options. I really think it would make the team better, but I'm not saying you are in bad shape as it is. Just an idea that I thought might make the Brewers better.

"As a Phils fan, I wouldn't mind Feliz at all on a 1 or 2 year contract at reasonable price."

And you can probably have said reasonable price. If not, Joe Crede and Brandon Inge are both probably available for peanuts themselves. Both make about 5-6M for guys with next to no interest from other teams, so the prospect return probably wont be that high in their case. The three are near cookie-cutter players and the only 2 teams who would seemingly be interested in one of the 3 would be your Phillies and the Giants…

erbacaine, I think capuano has some good pitching in him, but you cannot blame his era & losses solely on bad defense, he gave up 20 hr last year, and 98 over the last 4 yrs... that's bad.

Either way I think the brew crew have a good enough team to win their division, so long as the cubs don't continue their quest to form some sort of an NL AS team

Blanton I would NOT take on my team...at all..

He is product of having some of the best pitchers parks in the West.. and a product of the weak hitting Rangers.

His Road ERA the last 2 seasons are 5.11 and 5.10.... Look at how bad Zito and Mulder were when switching to the NL from the AL... and Hudson stayed around the same..

Sheets has never had arm or shoulder problems...its jsut been Blister, Ear infection, torn tendon in finger...and surgery on his back...

the best medicine for non arm injuries is a contract year... and since he has never had arm injuries you go into the year thinking that he will be 100% healthy because nobody has this bad of luck since 2005

back surgery for a pitcher is never a good thing, and history speaks for itself with Sheets. Yes, he could have an awesome year, but don't count on him, because him getting injured yet again was probably the reason they were sent home before the post season.

Soory Tim, but that was a pretty lame poll question. I'm sure there are other things more worthy of having polls about.

: Aduncaroo

You don't even know what the hell you are talking about. You must be a cubs fan making statements like that. The only thing the Brewers really need is a left handed hitter off the bench. Why on earth would they consider trading Hall. He had a down year last year, but put up 35 homers 2 years ago, and is bound to do it again. You are probably just saying this because you hope that comes true, with Feliz coming to play ss and Hall being shiped out, because you think that gives the cubs a better chance to win. Well the Crew can live with Hall's defense, because he is just going to light it up next year. Deal with it.

Lets assume Prince will only hit 40HR next year and Braun only hits 30HR. Based on their plate discipline Braun should hit after Fielder. But if you want Fielder 3rd and Braun 4th , I dont think that will work out because its alot of pressure to hit cleanup , its his sophomore year. You definately want Fielder hitting ahead of Braun so you have Fielder 4th where he naturally should be and Braun 5th. Cubs fans, with their Illinois representation in here, dont sell the Brewers short with this Fielder hitting 3rd crap!! Based on pitching matchups maybe you have Braun 4th on SOME DAYS. It is very possible that he slumps this year so all the more reason to keep him 5th.

Now you need Kendall to come through and hit second because you have to throw out all of his non-Pirates seasons because now hes back in the NL. Hes only 34 and he is meant to bat 2nd! If he cannot get on base, isnt durable, or both, and they cant find someone then they need a good 2 hitter and a 3hitter who is NOT Fielder. Corey Hart might not be as suitable as Kendall could be, if you all say Kendall is old and sucks which you all have, then yeah Hart needs to hit 2nd and then they wont have anyone to hit 3rd , Cameron strikes out too much. Its such a waste of production to have Fielder 3rd Braun 4th. I guess thats why you want that lineup because yall are Cubs and Cardinal fans. There are so many negatives, all of the pressure is on Weeks to get in scoring position. They need a solid #2 , Corey Hart is not the answer because he doesnt get on base as much as Kendall can. Hart will become a good hitter if you keep him the 3spot.
The more I think about it Cameron is not capable of hitting 3rd unless Hart goes into a bad slump, he is ideal to hit 6th ahead of Hall. Those two can produce alot down there when Cameron gets on base. If Hart and Cameron struggle let Kapler or Gwynn get a chance to hit up there, but keep Kendall batting second as long as he can.

Hall needs to be the cleanup guy at the bottom of the order! Or if Braun struggles Hall can hit 5th.

For all those Cubs fans on this site who are bitter that Kendall didnt produce for them, check out this stat....

Kendall RISP-.280
Kendall Empty-.216

A. Soriano RISP-.259
A. Soriano Empty-.318

Now somebody said that Kendall gets his hits without men on base and that he lead the league in DP which im sure was madeup BS. I never thought Soriano was such a hollow hitter. I wonder what his career stats are?

Also Capuano wont be traded except for the possibility of the trading deadline if they are out of it. I cant believe he leads the poll of who will get traded during spring training.

PIERZYNSKI 4 PREZ,

Your comment is almost the dumbest one I have seen, but dbacks has about the top 10 list of dumb posts all to himself.

The way to win is to score more than the other team, it doesn't matter how you do it. That being said, better defense would go a long way for the brewers. They already recognize that and got Cameron so they could get Braun, who is one of the worst 3rd basemen ever, in LF. So, if they could improve the defense a little more, and trade Hall and one of their excess SP for a legit #2 or #3, than I think they should do it. Its not crazy to think about, and you have no idea if Hall is going to "light it up" or not. I'm sure you thought the same thing last offseason...
