« Fred Claire Q&A | Main | Waiver Claims: Davis, Banks »
We haven't discussed the Miguel Cabrera-Carlos Guillen position swap here on MLBTR - on the surface it doesn't appear to have hot stove implications.
However, Ken Rosenthal heard from a Major League source that Brandon Inge is "livid" that Cabrera was moved off third yet Inge still doesn't have a starting gig.
Inge, 31 in May, is off to a decent start this year with a .246/.357/.439 line in 20 games. His versatility is especially valuable for the Tigers, who have multiple injury-prone starters. Trading Inge now only makes sense if a respectable reliever comes in return (even if $6.2MM is pricey for a supersub).

He's right. the best possible situation is miggy lf, cabrera 1b, and inge at 3b.

Ken Rosenthal - the king of quoting anonymous sources.

Miguel is a horrid OF. And since Det has a huge OF it would be worse for the team. Guillen is a fine choice for 3B. He can HIT and Catch. Inge can catch but not hit. Cabrera could be a solid 1B.
The best situation is Inge STFU and enjoys getting paid a lot of money for a guy who is a utility player and should have always been one. The team pays him to do what they say. So he should do it and be happy. He can always decide to give the money back and he can let him go. Then he can go get a starting job in Japan.

I don't know how the best possible situation has Cabrera playing first and LF.
I think the best situation is Inge at third, Cabrera at 1st, Guillen at DH and Shef on the DL.

Would the Brewers be a decent match up for the Tigers? Inge for Turnbow with the Brewers taking on the salary of Inge?

my anonymous source tells me that the Yankees and Tigers are offering to add "sugar" to Selig's salary if he allows the AL to add a second DH. just joking.

Hey Inge, you hit .236 -.312 last season. STFU!

While the move diminishes his value slightly, it's certainly the one to make.
I just don't understand how you can complain about making 6 million dollars to do nothing.
Don't get that one.

Yeah, I'm getting really sick of hearing Brandon Ingw whine. He's getting paid way more than he's worth. He should just shut up.

And no, the Brewers will not part with Derrick Turnbow for a thirdbaseman who is getting paid 6 million dollars and hit .236 last year. We already have Bill Hall, who has better numbers than Inge across the board. The Brewers are no longer the team to just dump your loser players on.

Jeez cut Inge some slack. If he was talking to the press about “being livid” you guys have a point. But if he was talking to the press that way then Mr. Rosenthal wouldn’t need to use anonymous “league sources” to back up the article. So if Inge is unhappy and if he is saying anything he his keeping it behind closed doors. Which is the right thing to do.
I am not addressing if he has an inflated self value. Just say give him some credit for the part he is doing right.

Cabrera is a terrible outfielder? He has a canon for an arm and can catch things.

Yeah, I never understand guys in this position being mad. I mean look -- he'll play a lot of CF against LHP, for one thing. The two guys he backs up in the infield are an injury-prone 31 year old with balky hamstrings and a bad ankle who's about to reverse direction on the defensive spectrum, and a fat kid with a short attention span. He's even been getting starts behind the dish. It should be obvious to anyone that Leyland is trying his damnedest to work Inge into the lineup. The fact that Miggy and Guillen are theoretically switching spots (I say 'theoretically' because yesterday they were at their normal positions, and today Guillen's sitting out) doesn't change a thing.

Hehehe, I love it… Everybody called me a fool when I said that it wasn’t worth trading all those prospects and dishing out all that cash to a 1B/DH type when a 1B/DH with extremely strong numbers can be found much easier and cheaper and those prospects/dollars can be used for other upgrades. Everyone explained that he was in the best shape of his life, and that he was young and yada, yada, yada… Well, 20-ish games into his Det career and he is already losing time at the hot corner? Classic…
