It's no secret that the Pirates would love to trade starter Matt Morris. The Dave Littlefield acquisition remains perplexing. The "veteran leadership" angle doesn't play well when his Pirates' ERA is over 6.00 in 14 starts. This year, he's not even getting groundballs.
Neal Huntington would love to see Morris show a hint of value, so that he can trade the 34 year-old and somehow avoid paying all of the $10.5MM still owed to him. How long until Huntington gives up on that idea and cuts Morris? Bryan Bullington and John Van Benschoten seem more deserving of starts.

Wow!
Brian Sabean did something right!

I have to admit, the only reason I no longer refer to Brian Sabean as a worthless sack of crap is because he dumped Morris AND got a prospect for it AND the Giants aren't ponying up his salary. Seriously hilarious. Did Littlefield just decide he hated his job and the team he worked for?

Yeah good for Sabean. Except that he has completely failed on the rest of the team. How's that Zito signing looking now? Offense with a Molina that might be traded in the 4 hole?
Redirecting, this was an awful and mind boggling trade for the Pirates. If the Pirates wanted a 30 something pitcher to fail at teaching youngsters--they could've waited to sign Jeff Weaver this year for nada. Oh well eh?

If he doesn't turn it around some by the end of April, he should be released. He should just retire anyway, as it's obvious that there's nothing left in the tank.

Obviously Morris needs to go in one way or another. I don't know if Bullington is finally ready for the big leagues, but Van Benschoten is a AAA lifer. Outstanding pitcher at AAA, can't take that success to the majors.
