« Olney: Red Sox Looking For A Catcher | Main | Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Pedro's Injury »
Baseball Digest Daily is reporting a press conference scheduled at the Rogers Centre this afternoon. The belief, from BDD and many other quarters, is that they'll be announcing Alex Rios' extension. Standard PR move to wait until the home-opener.
It's supposed to be a six-year, $65MM deal extension. It would start with the '09 season with an option for 2015 for around $15MM. If those numbers are correct, it sounds like a smart move for Toronto.

Very smart move, this is one of the leagues best hitters coming into his prime. I still do not know who would have won the Lincecum for Rios trade had it been done, but with Wells, Rios, and Hill, the blue jays do seem to have a bright trip for the future.

I'm glad they allegedly got this done. I spent like 25 bucks to sponsor Alex's B-R page and I didn't want it to go to waste.

THis is another piece in the puzzle that will make the Jays competitive for years to come.If they can lock Hill up,then it's a good core for the Jays to build on!

Apparently some other 'surprise' to be announced too. Probably something stupid, but who knows.

Wait! Isn't BDD the acronym for Boston Dirt Dogs?
