« Rays Leaning Toward Posey Or Alvarez? | Main | Royals Sign Horacio Ramirez »
THURSDAY: Martinez cleared the air today, saying he hasn't considered retirement and (barring a major injury) he wants to pitch two or three more years.
TUESDAY: Mets starter Pedro Martinez explained his thinking to Roger Rubin of the New York Daily News. Pedro is feeling good and should be back with the Mets this month. However, he is not under contract past 2008 and retirement is an option. Martinez's father has brain cancer, and he wants to be there for him.
Mets starters are fifth in the NL with a 3.89 ERA. Johan Santana and John Maine make a great 1-2 punch, and Oliver Perez is doing fine. A healthy Pedro should give the Mets one of the league's better rotations. They're currently just a game back of the Marlins.

I feel bad for him because he is a great pitcher, one of the bests. He would be leaving the game early but for understandable reasons. He's not the same pitcher he once was and family will always come first. However, from an opponent's standpoint, it would be nice not having to face Pedro ever again.

Todd Linden released from triple-A last night, after tearing up the league with a +1.000 OPS. What do you think his chances are of catching on with a major league team?

Good find! I'm shocked that they released him, especially with the A's precarious defense in the outfield these days (Cust and Brown, mainly, plus Buck's and Denorfia's injuries). He might get a minor league contract somewhere, but I think that's about it for this year. Perhaps Linden will prove me wrong?!?!

Buck and Denorfia aren’t injured.
Buck is assigned to triple-A, not rehabbing.
And the A’s just made up an injury for Denorfia because they needed his roster spot and didn't want to use an option (Does he even have options remaining?).
Plus, Fiorentino is back now from injury now.
Glut of outfielders if anything.

They're not injured anymore, but they're not quite "big league ready" either (and we'll never know about Denorfia's true demotion...). So you're right! We have outfielders, although none who have performed consistently w/the Rivercats like Linden has this season. Wonder if Linden's comments to the press a la Halsey affected his chances of the A's calling him up?

Oliver Perez is doing fine? Is this the Mexican dude that plays for the Mets? If that is, then no, he is not doing fine. Count how many times he has gotten through seven innings this year.

The Mets are 3.5 games back dude, not 1.

That would be one time. The same amount of times as John Maine. What is your point?

nrmax88,
My point is he is not doing fine. Barely making it out of the sixth for that matter and wonderfully mercurial. I trust you know that being that you are a Mets fan. Good point with John Maine. I did not know he too has been failing in giving his bull pen some rest.

Nah, I hear you. Its just that even with Perez's inconsitency, this teams lack of any offense is frustrating to me. I think Perez should be okay, he has done well working with the Schneid. Besides last night that is, but I never really expected a strong outing in Coors field. The whole team is just extremely frustrating.
