Think everyone was kinda expecting this one.

Anonymous sources say Joe Carter will be starting in LF before the weekend is over.

to bad, i never really thought he was the reason they sucked, i think it has to do more with lacking offense in the central part of the order and injuries more then managerial things with the jays. to bad the president and executives cant fire themselves, usually they are the ones that make the most mistakes

Considering the amazing buffoon Ricciardi publicly proved himself to be just like 48 hours ago, I’m kind of surprised they actually allowed him to fire Gibbons… I would have thought those comments would put this move on hold until the other obvious one was completed ~ like what we saw in Seattle last week…

4 years too late.

Rumor has it John Olerud and his fielding helmet will be taking 1B by Monday.

Kelly Gruber is going to be pissed if someone doesn't mention him in a joke....
Posted by: Darin | June 20, 2008 at 12:50 PM
Ricciardi's anger on Dunn kind of makes sense now, maybe his butt is close to the fire too and was just lashing out on what would be a stupid move in bringing in Dunn

Roberto Alomar is coming back as well, apparently in his contract he is going to spit in every umpires face prior to every game.

Kelly Gruber? That is so 1992...

Everyone could see this coming. The Blue Jays were expected to contend for the division this year and have really underachieved. I think Gibbon started to spell out his own fate when he got into the argument/fight with Ted Lilly while he was still with the Blue Jays. A manager just can't pull stunts like that and get away with it, unless of course you are Ozzie Guillen.

A Junior Felix renaissance can't be far behind here...

Wow, way too many former-Jays-coming-back jokes.
Let's all hope JP is the next to go!
Gibbons gone, I can't believe it finally happened! I'm so happy i'm tearing up... and replaced with Cito!!! What a great day!

Wow, someone did something right for once. WE GOT CITO GASTON! It has been a good run Gibby, you have had your ups and downs but in the end you were fired. All there is left to do is fire JP.

I always thought it was very odd that Cito never got another managing job. I mean, the man won two World Series. Managers have gotten second and third chances based on far less. Dusty
After all, they hired him back as a hitting coach to work under the manager that he beat in the World Series (Fregosi). Very strange neither they or anybody else ever wanted to hire him.

Getting into fistfights was the only thing Gibbons had in common with John McGraw or Billy Martin. I never wish firing on anyone, but I was surprised he wasn't fired after the Lilly and Hillenbrand incidents. One, maybe. But two?

Just to add to the list of people who got fired, Ernie Whitt, Marty Pevey and Gary Denbo have been fired as well. I don't really see the thought behind the firing of Whitt and Pevey, they're the first and third base coaches for god's sake they have nothing to do with the Jays' problems offensively. They got these 3 new random coaches who I really don't understand this move.

Kind of surprising to me. I thought that being mediocre was what the Jays had been aiming for the last few years.

The oh so subtle, stop talking about me sucking at my job and ripping Adam Dunn for no reason move.

John Gibbons intentionally walked Tony Pena, Jr. this year. Nuff said.

Wonder if Jack Morris will be the new pitching coach ( ok most likely not but since I mentioned good old Jack in the Schilling thread I thought I would squeak him into another thread - if they won't put him in the HOF the least I could do is get him some mentions here).... God is work slow lol

"Wow, way too many former-Jays-coming-back jokes."
You want sad and tired? Try one of Tim's chats where EVERYONE has to use a ballplayer or front office guy's name when asking a question.
But don't get mad at me for saying people are unoriginal. Jimmy Key pointed it out to me.

Jays didn't fire their Pitching Coach and honestly I hope they never do.
Having Cito back I'm very happy with this move the guy has a great baseball mind.
Posted by: Dev0 | June 20, 2008 at 03:07 PM
True -- people shouldn't do things like that automatically. If anything, they should do it Manuel Lee.
Posted by: CubsAddictMG | June 20, 2008 at 03:07 PM
@Darin
No offense, but how would you ask Tim a question and not mention a "ballplayer" or "front-office guy"?
That's like saying, "Goddamnit, every thread that gets posted on this site descends into an argument about baseball!"
Posted by: jrfukudome | June 20, 2008 at 04:36 PM
It's not everyone asking a question about a baseball player or FO guy. It's about posing the question as the player or FO guy. Where you put you name (I would put "Darin") they would put the ball player.
ie,
Adam Dunn: Do you think that I will be traded this year?
Tim: {Tim then does his usually great job answering}

Sorry, Todd Stottlemyre wanted me to edit:
**Where you put your name...."

@Darin
Ahhh... Well then I couldn't agree more.

"Ricciardi's anger on Dunn kind of makes sense now, maybe his butt is close to the fire too and was just lashing out on what would be a stupid move in bringing in Dunn"
Yeah, it would be absurdly stupid to bring in a 900 OPS monster power hitter to actually help score some runs for what is easily the best pitching staff in baseball. That would be ridiculous. Why would they want something like that. Ugh.

And once again, Toronto's terrific offense comes through to bail out that pitching staff again. Oh... wait, actually Halladay through another gem and has nothing to show for it. Besides a huge headache.

…Nah man, he also has the newspaper article showing his noggin nearly being taken off which he can scrapbook! Also has his name being mentioned on the non-localized nightly-news. He also has something he can chuckle about with Rolen ~ ie, “hey man, your ear left blood stains in my glove…”.
…always look on the bright side of life, da-da…da-da, da-da, da-da…

Dark I see what you mean about calling out grammar, because I dont remember making that post last night, and in my mindstate I obviously knew of no difference between through and threw.
Anyway, its a shame that the BJ's cant get some offense going, because their rotation is truely sick. Burnett has to be better, he has been just awful, but besides Mcgowan and Halladay, their big name guys, how about Shaun Marcum? Guy should be a CY young contender (if not leader) but he won't get any credit because he only has 5 wins, which is a crime in itself.
99 IP
2.65 era
1.00 whip
72 hits allowed
27 walks
86 K's
Those are just phenomenal numbers and you never hear his name mentioned.

…hahaha, telling ya man! Shoot, I type quickly and often times don’t have a good opportunity to double-check everything. I cant tell you how many times I cringe when I see the typo’s I present. Oh, and I probably make that same mistake 75% of the time I use the word “threw”; so I would have to advise not to sweet it at all ~ just do us a favor and don’t go bashing others for it, would hate for people to follow us around doing the same… :)
“Anyway, its a shame that the BJ's cant get some offense going, because their rotation is truely sick.”
Yeah, agree ~ but when you GM releases, refuses to sign or illogically bashes some of the best fits for an offensive boost then I would have to say they deserve what they get as long as they keep him around…
