If the Marlins are really desperate for a catcher, how 'bout Ramon Hernandez + $$$ (the fins are all about the bottom line and Hernandez's contract would, otherwise, seem prohibitive). The O's throw in Chad Bradford and maybe one of their second tier pitching prospects for...say...Logan Morrison (and whatever crap the Marlins want to throw in so its not 2 MLB players for a minor leaguer). Love me some Morrison. Doubt Florida would give him up, but Gaby Hernandez is smokin' the ball too, so...

Sorry, I'm just desperate for the O's to start selling. Not feeling real confident about our chances with the injuries starting to pile up.

Are the Brewers still dealing?
What could Giants get for Durham/Tasch?
What about a bigger deal with Cain + for JJ Hardy/Gamel??

Thanks for the link...I should've looked harder.

55savinglives,
As a representative for the Giants of Major League Baseball, let me say we could definitely talk. Gamel's just the type of prospect we need, I'm willing to deal Cain b/c of what we have in the bigs and what we've got coming below (to say nothing of - dogs and cats living together - my belief that Barry Zito will show some improvement here soon). Don't really have a pressing need for Hardy, but I like him. Maybe send him packing somewhere for a young arm or 1B.
Cain's an enigma wrapped inside a Dodger Dog (0-7 lifetime vs. the Blue, I believe). I'm not sure he's got the right attitude for a front-of-the-rotation starter. Seems to always pitch just bad or good enough to bitch about losing or wonder why he couldn't hang on for a win.

sounds like a good time for the reds to get rid of bako or ross though i would prefer to keep ross cuz he has hr power in our ballpark and plays great defense but either way both need to be gone.

what a terrible article by Kevin Davidoff...he doesnt really give us anything, and he forgets to mention Harden/Blanton/Bedard, some of the more bigger names that are floating around out there after C (no period) C (no period) Sabathia...
idk maybe im just overreacting...

no i agree that was the most horrible list ive seen. ive heard arroyo , harang , harden , blanton , bedard , myers and some others but obviously someone like greg maddux or freddy garcia is a better option

i know there hasnt been a great deal about the rangers up, but whats to be said for the availability of micheal young?
as i see it, most teams in a selling position are short on quality shortstops to shop, and of course my red sox could use an upgrade...
the rangers are 8.5 out, and have sold off mark teixeira already last year, and want to do a rebuild of their franchise. 8.5 is a bit too far to even consider your team in contention, and with a weak shortstop trade market young could fetch some nice prospects to further the rebuild... i havnt read anything about it, but maybe someone can find something... anybody else have an opinion on this?

I'd like to see Young playing short for the sox just as much as you would. Julio Lugotoilet is driving me nuts!
That being said I really don't think it is a real possibitlity, getting Young that is. As you said there are slim pickings in the Short department and I think the rangers had to make a choice, Young or Tex, they picked Young. Young isn't going anywhere. I gotta think he is one of the cornerstones of their franchise.

i dunno. the rangers have two decent SS prospects in the pipeline (elvis (elvus?) and arias). and while at one point there was talk of moving young to 2B, no reason to do that now. it might actually make sense to move young if they can get good value for him and find out whether one of their two guys can fill the void.

Ahh I forgot about Elvis Andrews? Not gonna look up his last name now. The next question is how far out is he?

Andrus is young for his level (19 in AA), so he is definitely expected to develop, but he has a sub-.700 OPS in 1400 minor-league ABs. He needs to ripen on the vine a bit.
Young is signed through 2013 at $16M per, with a no-trade clause through next season. Assuming the Red Sox had to eat the vast majority of Lugo's salary to move him ($27M through 2011, if his option vests), you could be looking at roughly $20M per year through 2013 to get an .800-OPS shortstop who will turn 32 this season.

the same cash arguement raged about edgar renteria, and the sox did pay the vast majority of his contract for the braves, and tho he did recover it doesnt take away from the fact they netted andy marte, who was later used as a trade chip himself... lugo is no renteria, but a team may part with a reasonable prospect if we eat some of his deal, he only makes 9 a year, so if we at 4 or 5 hed be a bargain then... young is 10 times the player lugo is, and tho he makes 6 million more, it is more deserved... the sox turned renterias abysmal contract (at the time) into josh bard, coco crisp and guillermo mota--- while bard and mota failed badly crisp is now a valuable trade commodity, theo is creative with turning bad contracts into commodities because shortstop is a position that players get alot of chances to recover at because good ones are few and far between

Bedards is interesting, and Seattle should get what they can get for him. I QUESTION HIS HEART WHILE IN A BALTIMORE. I mean so many games an elite pitcher would give u that 7 th and possibly 8 th ingings. The O's sold him above his worth,Bedard's is around 30ish and 200 ingings is too much to ask.
