According to Bob Dutton of the KC Star, the Twins are in the market for a second baseman. Alexi Casilla has a serious thumb injury. Dutton mentions Mark Grudzielanek, Rich Aurilia, and Brian Roberts as possibilities. Roberts, however, may be off the market. Dutton says the Twins could use Boof Bonser and Craig Monroe as bait.
Here's a look at the trade market for second basemen.

Didnt the Orioles say recently that Roberts is untouchable?

The Twins could use Boof Bonser and Craig Monroe as bait?? Bait for what? Both of them suck.
The Twins would have to deal a good pitching prospect, maybe Tyler Robertson, as the starting point. The Orioles aren't just going to give away Roberts, as evidenced by them holding on to Roberts most of this season already.

Kelly Johnson of the Braves might make some sense. We have Martin Prado to take over his spot and could use some young pitching.

i am a big kelly johnson fan but if he could be moved to get us a Baker or Slowey i would be all for it. would that be a decent trade? i mean others could be involved but these would be center pieces for both sides. Or even move prado for a much lesser prospect

I am not too sure if the Twins want to touch any of their starting pitching (Baker, Slowey, Blackburn, Perkins, etc). Hence the offer of Bonser to teams, who is obviously the odd man out, especially with Liriano waiting in the wings. Kelly Johnson is an interesting name for the Twins though.

Twins trade Boof Bonser to Giants for Rich Aurilia. The the Giants flip him to Texas with another pitching prospect for Gerald Laird and flip Bengie Molina to Marlins for Mike Jacobs and a IF prospect??? Hell... a guy can dream, right?

Baltimore will want at least 4 to 5 players back.
Remember at the beginning of the season the Indians tried hard to work something out for Roberts and they asked for 4 of their top 5 prospects at the time.
Adam Miller top pitch prospect
Arron Laffey already in majors
Trevor Crowe top OF Prospect
Wes Hodges top 3rd prospect
The Indians laughed and walked away.
When the Dodgers tried this year - Baltimore wanted
At the time where they were
James Looney in the majors
Andre Ethier in the majors
Chin-ling Hu in the major
James McDonald top pitch prospect
So as you can see Baltimore's GM must be on CRACK because he thinks he is trading Mickey Mantle in his prime or something .

I think Kelly Johnson makes a lot of sense. Frank Wren has said that 5-6 players are available. I'd have to think that Kelly is one of those, along with Tex, Ohman, Kotsay, Soriano, and Francoeur. I doubt the Braves would have any interest in Bonser or Monroe. Neither one have showed they can produce at a MLB level. I think they would ask for a high-level SP prospect.

Maybe a Bonser for Prado swap? i know Boof has been terrible this year but the Braves are going to need all the pitching they can get this season and next.

I could see that, but I doubt the Braves want a guy with an ERA close to 7. Prado isn't the answer for the Twins either. He's still a backup at this stage in his career.

If the Giants trade Aurilia, I'm afraid the Giants in the second half will be the team most people predicted them to be all season. Entirely punchless. And after two straight shutouts in LA, Sabean probably is scared of that idea.

Mark Ellis makes a lot of sense to me.

BaseballNuts,
I think those Orioles offers were made with Bedard in mind. Either as a package deal or for Bedard alone. The only team that was ever linked to Roberts seriously was the Cubs.
