2:29pm: Correction: the Sox are interested in Nationals closer Joel Hanrahan, not Lannan.
1:00pm: WSCR Radio in Chicago reports that the White Sox are interested in 23 year-old Nationals lefty John Lannan. Jon Heyman has heard the same. He has a fine 3.33 ERA in 119 innings this year. Not much of a strikeout rate though.

It was a caller who mentioned it, but no source. I'm very doubtful, but scared out of my mind at the same time.

Jon Heyman has a tidbit in his latest entry.

No, not a caller, the beat reporter for the score, Jesse Rogers got the call from his source live on the air. So this is possible, but the sox would have to give up a bunch I think.

It was Jesse Rogers, a Score "personality" who said he couldn't reveal his source (read: this is dubious). You'd think Bowden would want to keep a 23 year-old lefty with that kind of ERA, though his peripherals aren't overly exciting save a pretty respectable home run rate.

WSox need another deal to make any sense whatsoever about this Griffey deal. We shall see...
Still don't know what's wrong w/ putting Brian Anderson in CF for his defense and letting his offense develop. We did the same thing w/ Crede and that worked out pretty well.
Kenny's small deals turn out pretty good (Ramirez, Quentin, Loaiza, Jenks, etc...) but when he goes for the name guy (Thome, Swisher, Albert Belle, etc.) doesn't seem to work out quite as well

Now the Score's saying Hanrahan, not Lannan.

Thanks, guys. It makes me sweat even more. JimBo is probably asking the moon for him.
Posted by: Phishisgr8 | July 31, 2008 at 01:13 PM
Ummm, I'm sorry how exactly hasn't Thome worked out?
Posted by: tdogg | July 31, 2008 at 01:22 PM
Yeah, how has Thome not worked out?
And Brian Anderson has had about 10 chances to win that job. You think his offense is going to "develop" with, what, 3 or 4 more seasons of playing time? Try tuning in and watching a Sox game once or twice, and marvel at his magnificent .280 OBP.
But I suppose if they just keep playing him forever he'll get better, right?

Mr. Beepers gets angry when you disrespect the South Side. You do not want to see Mr. Beepers angry.

Why wouldn't Bowden ask the moon for him? He's done nothing but perform this year and last (and would have a great record if he got any run support, I believe he's last in MLB in that or close to it). He is under team control for 5 more years. He is a lefty and he is 23 years old.
Again, I'll ask-why wouldn't he ask the moon for him?

He would. Who said he wouldn't?

Thome is OK, but looking in rearview mirror, would we rather have not made the trade and kept Rowand in CF? Absolutely. So my point about this not being a great trade for a 'name' guy is spot on.
You must be loaded up on too many ginandtacos or you would obviously realize this. You are probably the same clowns who thought we were going to win w/ one dimensional HR hitters Lee, Ordonez, Thomas, Belle etc... clogging our lineup. Go play fantasy baseball, might be more suited for you.

No its not goof. Rowand's value doesn't compare to the offensive upgrade Thome gave the team for - going on 3 years. You obviously don't know how to read baseball numbers or you would have realized that.

Yeah that makes since. Clearly those horrible players is why they didn't win the WS.

sorry sense.
Posted by: tdogg | July 31, 2008 at 01:46 PM
Like I said, if you want to just read numbers, play fantasy baseball. Rowand is an everyday player who plays great D and by the way hits around .300
Your comparison isn't really accurate, b/c you would need to compare Thome's numbers to Big Hurt's b/c that is who he replaced in the lineup.
Hey, I like Thome just as much as the next guy, & he has been good for this team. I'm just pointing out the facts of the trade

"Like I said, if you want to just read numbers, play fantasy baseball."
Lmao. I think I'm finished trying to help you. Absolutely clueless.

Smart response tdogg. don't know what I'm going to do w/out your 'help'.

Please explain to me how Kenny Williams negotiated the Albert Belle trade behind Ron Shueler's back.
Posted by: McCuddys1979 | July 31, 2008 at 02:24 PM
Could be wrong, but I don't think williams had anything to do with Albert Belle. Who wasn't terrible in a White Sox rumor, remember. He is responsible however for jermaine dye, carlos quentin, alexei ramirez, and a whole bunch of others. Underrated GM in my opinion. He will take a risk and his picks pan out most of the time.
Posted by: tschram | July 31, 2008 at 02:36 PM
For farts and larfs, Albert Belle's two years on the south side went as follows:
324 G, 1382 PA, .301/.368/.571, 203 R, 175 XBH, including 79 HR and 93 2B, plus 268 RBI if that's your thing
BUST

As mentioned, Williams had absolutely nothing to do with Belle being on the south side. That was Schuler. Kenny has a pretty good track record for smaller trades and signings. When it's big names it's less positive for the Sox, but not always bad.
