« Gammons' Latest: Murton, Nady, Wilder | Main | Grudzielanek Wants To Play Two Or Three More Years »
According to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Juan Uribe trade talks are rumored to be heating up. Kenny Williams may be trying to finish a deal before Paul Konerko returns from the disabled list. Manager Ozzie Guillen talked about finding "the best opportunity" for Uribe, so it's no secret the Sox are trying to make a trade.
Uribe, 29, is hitting .215/.269/.341 in 147 plate appearances as a utility infielder this year. He's making $4.5MM, so that'll be an issue.
The Orioles seem the most likely suitor, unless they complete a deal for Felipe Lopez. The Chicago Tribune's Mark Gonzales says the Orioles had a scout in attendance for yesterday's White Sox-Indians game (Uribe did not play).

Eh, the season is half over so I would guess Uribe is probably only owed a little over $2mil, not that much of a burden. Im sure a team would oblige if the Sox ask for little in return ( i.e. the player to be named later).

I dunno...part of the season passing doesn't change Uribe's salary per day. He remains equally overpaid.

I'll take him for a bucket of balls for my softball team. Sox have to pick up the salary, though.

I know it's a long shot, but if Uribe plays everyday, he might have an outside chance at getting Type B free agency. If so, what's the equivalent of that comp pick? I feel like I've read that it's about $2-3 mil. So if a team like the O's bank on that type B, could be an equal investment.

Hell, if we get a mid-level RP for Uribe I'll be more than happy.
Uribe can be valuable in that he has a very above average glove and decent pop for a SS/2B. But the batting average and OBP just kills him.

If I am not mistaken, you only get the draft pick if the player is offered arbitration and another team then signs him. So, if no other team wants to sign Uribe as a free agent, you risk being on the hook for his salary next year if he accepts arbitration.

What would the sox get for him? It could come out to be a 3- team trade? But who will be the 3rd team?... Cubs for Roberts?

That is definitely something to consider, Nodiggity. I don't think the arbitration salary for him would be too high, so he might want to see what he can get on the market. Or at least get the same money and hopefully some committed years.
I still stand pat that the Sox should hold on to him and DFA Ozuna when Konerko comes back. Or send Russell down, as they don't really need 2 long men with the staff of SP they have. Juan should be backing up Crede at 3b, and perhaps even getting some AB's vs. lefties.
