« Phillies Come Up Empty At Deadline | Main | Manny Wanted To Stay? »
3:25pm: Joe Christensen says both Hernandez and Craig Monroe will likely be DFA'd today. Both were questionable acquisitions from Day 1. Francisco Liriano and Randy Ruiz will join the Twins.
8:23am: According to La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Twins are expected to designate Livan Hernandez for assignment today to make room for Francisco Liriano. The Twins are prepared to eat the remaining $1.66MM on Hernandez's contract.
It's the right move, just several weeks too late. Hernandez turned into a pumpkin in late May, while Liriano has been on a tear for about a month.
It seems that the Twins may have been looking to trade Boof Bonser to clear a spot for Liriano. Talks with the Giants and Rangers did not pan out however.

It is about time and this could be better for the team than any trade would of made the team better.

My fantasy team is very happy to hear this. There's really no reason to keep him in AAA anymore.

hallefreakin'lujah!! Its about time, Livan has given up 200 hits in 140 innings... that is awful. Opposing hitters are hitting .340 against him!

I think I heard the Yankees are going to pick him up...

the yankees should pick him up...that would be a low cost/low risk move...you should be a GM

Livan has METS written all over him.

Finally. This team is good enough to possibly make a run at the White Sox.

maxpotential, the Phillthies were trying to get a starting pitcher, too. They might have a go at him.

Doesn't he have a history with Omar? Plus, Shea is much more of a pitchers' park than that launching pad in Philly.

speaking of the Mets, wouldn't Andruw Jones be worth taking a shot on in RF? I'm sure his salary would pass through waivers.

As a Twins fan, I agree that Livan would be a low cost, low risk signing for anyone who picks him up. However, he's also a no reward signing.

Andruw Jones' next stop is in the independent league. He is not a major league caliber ballplayer anymore.

I think Brett Myers is pretty messed up right now, but if the Phillies sell him im buying. Meyers was real good at one point and worth taking a chance on. I would much rather take my chances with Myers if I am the Phillies.
Livan Hernandez is mediocre!!! I can only see teams desperate for innings eaters biting for him.

The move is official.

Maybe Livan sticks around because he can still swing the bat. The Dodgers should pick up him as a bench bat PH and dump Fat Andruw and Sweeney; it would be an offensive upgrade for LA.
