Yankees Sign Victor Zambrano

According to Peter Abraham, the Yankees have signed 33 year-old righty Victor Zambrano to a minor league deal.  Zambrano posted a 9.45 ERA in 40 Triple A innings this year.

Abraham indicates he will stay in Tampa and work out and is coming off surgery.  Not sure what surgery that refers to, but Zambrano did spent time on the DL with an elbow strain last year.  He also had Tommy John surgery in May of '06 as well as a procedure to repair a flexor muscle tear.  At the time, it was thought to be possibly career-ending.

HAHAH. Good luck with that one.

Ponson and now Zambrano? Wow the Yanks are really scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

Desperate much?

Yeah, Ponson, Milton and now the wrong Zambrano.

Id say give Kennedy another shot he cant be much worse, but I dont want to count on wins from him at this time of the year...

Hell, I dont really want to count on Rasner, Ponson, Milton or Zambrano...

(sigh)

Byrd would have been solid compared to these guys.

Ca$h sure does love mediocre "low risk" pitching, doesn't he?

CC or Harden? Nah, we'll win the AL with Ponson, Rasner, Milton and now Zambrano.

What's the matter, was Nolan Ryan's asking price too high?

Victor Zambrano for Scott Kazmir?
makes me laugh everytime

Victor Zambrano for Scott Kazmir?
makes me puke every time.

Although, this link explains why it might make sense:

Hey..look at the bright side, at least we didn't have to trade Kazmir to get him!

This doesn't make much sense. At this point, I think that David Wells could pitch better than Zambrano.

That right there is Desperation. The Rockies had Zambrano in AAA Colorado Springs and didn't use him once.

HEY YANKEES WE HAVE THIS JOSH TOWERS

Does this mean Tampa Bay gets another ace lefty...like whenever you hear a bell an angel gets his wings?

... Someone already tried to catch lightning in a bottle with this guy. It really, really didn't work.

The Jays didn't handle him particularly well though. You never know.

"Does this mean Tampa Bay gets another ace lefty..."

Actually yes. They will soon have David Price to replace either Sonnanstine or Jackson in the rotation. :D

The Yankees just sent Pittsburgh two members of their AAA rotation. Horne was sent from AAA to Tampa to work on dead arm issues. Scranton's pitching rotation is down to Igawa, the recently promoted Chase Wright, and Ian Kennedy. Kennedy will probably take Ponson's place soon if he keeps pitching the way he has been.

This move strictly comes down to needing people to fill out the roster in AAA.

Dude if the yankees get a low risk pitcher we need to fire Cashman Dude The Yankees need a outstanding pitcher to help us win the al east look at it this way with manny out of boston and their pitching staff pitching bad the al east os up for takes and tampa good but they dont have the bench or bullpen to hold up which the yankees both have but then the yankees are solid threw the first three starters as
Chamberlain Andy and the moose but the bottom is bad all we need is pavano back from the dl and wang but meanwhile lets get Tim Redding and were getting the minor leaguers Ian ready to make a comeback so we can be good getting tim on a waiver trade

Hec, do you remember what happend last time Tim Redding pitched for the yankees? I think they gave up like 14 runs that game and I dont think redding made it through 4 innings.

I've never seen soo many ignorant m0r0ns who just love to take pot shots at the Yankees.

They got Milton, Zambrano, Ponson and Sexson for FREE. ALL of them USED to be pretty talented. If ANY of them work out and have a comeback season, it's a BONUS. If they don't, they get released. It's not like they traded anyone for these re-treads or even gave up any prospects at all. There is NOTHING to lose here people. So stop making such ridiculous comments because all it does is make YOU look like an idiot, not Cashman!

Why not get Wells. He had about 10 Quality starts last year and has playoff experience. i'm pretty sure he wont cost 28 mill.

Thank you for saving my time in writing that...dare I say it's a GREAT move...it costs nothing and only positives can come out of this....All you people should wish that you had Cashman, and more importantly George Steinbrenner as your owner

Well said and couldn't be more true... in the off season however I volunteer that we pick up Sabathia, Sheets and Lackey along with one or two more pitchers of worth. yes all the idiots will say the yankees bought their team however every team in baseball is buying their teams just look at the payroll... we shouldnt allow the whiners to dictate policy for the yankees...George wouldnt have...

I am a Red Sox fan from birth and I must agree with bigbankyanks. I really do not think that people understand how cheap some of these players are. A million dollars is nothing for most MLB franchises. 9 out 10 of these guys will be shuffled about for the next couple years until they retire, however if one has a quarter season of solid play they are worth it. The Red Sox went out and got Bartolo Colon for like what 4 million, which is beer money. Bartolo strong together some solid starts, and has already been worth while. If Colon's injury kept him out the rest of the season the Sox would have still got return on their investment.

Is it really that bad Yanks?

not a bad signing but david wells would seem to fit the bill that is if he can fit in his uniform first.
