Sniff Sniff, I guess Jerry heard that Bobby was interested. Hopefully papa gangsta can get these Mets into the playoffs.

nice move...3rd year club option sounds good.

This likely means Manny Acta stays in DC for a while. Don't see him going anywhere besides to the Mets.

Dawnrider117 i can not agree with you more i mean he was horrible when he held delgado at 3rd against the cubs when he could have scored. signing resigning jerry manuel was a good move for the mets organization.

Jerry did a fine job. That said, I wasn't sure about whether I wanted him back. On the one hand, he seemed to turn the team around, minus the last 2 weeks. On the other, he was an interim manager, they didn't make the playoffs, and there were times when he just seemed to make big mistakes with the pitchers. I know he didn't have much to work with in the pen, but there were a few glaring mistakes, where he would have a spot to get a righy out in a RBI spot and went to Heilman on Duaner instead of Joe Smith, who gets paid to do what he does. I also think he should have went to Bobby PArnell earlier. Not that he was amazing, but he was solid and getting 5 to 7 more innings out of him while he was sitting idly in the pen may have made a difference.

The positives are, the players seem to really like him a lot, and want to win for him, which fair or not, just was not the situation when Willie was here. He also handles the media much better then Willie ever did. He gives smart, well thought out answers, not just the generic, broken record answers that Willie would give. He is a good interview. He has fun with the media, and his humor deflects them away from bigger issues sometimes, and a good manager deflects media attention off his team (Torre was a master at this) by puuting it on himself. After Johan Santana's complete game shutout on the last Saturday of the season, Jerry was asked to describe Johan that day. Jerry responded by simply saying... "Johan was gangsta". The media seems to really like Jerry, which is a big part of the battle managing a baseball team in NY. The fact that the team also seemed to like and respond to him makes it seem fair that he get a shot at leading this team with something resembling a major league bullpen.

That said, I love Bobby Valentine and wouldn't have minded seeing him back.

bobby v was never coming back here. that was the ny press thinking out loud again. he left unceremoniously and i'm not sure bobby would have done well with this team.

not crazy about manuel but he's the best fit for this team heading into '09

bobby valentine will never come back to NY ever he is making a crap load of money in japan with the Chiba Lotte Marines. and he told these japanese media a long time ago that he would not go back to ny manage.

Well there was a statement from his representation yesterday that he would be open to managing the Mets. Don't know why they would put something like that out there for no reason. Maybe to make more money in Japan? But I wouldn't think so, he is like a hero in Japan, and I thionk trying to muscle a team into paying him more might hurt his rep over there.

Either way, it's moot.
