Great... Now what are the Yankees going to do about First Base if the don't get Teixera?!?!?!?
Posted by: Gamevice | October 11, 2008 at 11:06 AM
The Yankees have to sign teixera. the oppurtunity to sign a great first baseman does not come around to often and they have no solution in the farm system.

Maybe they can resign Giambi.

posada at 1b ?

if the yankees go after free agent starters, then they'll probably try to trade for a first baseman.

cubs4ever,
That seems right. I figured their plan all along would be sign starters trade for 1B maybe CF too.

Even without Tex the Yanks have 3 guys who should be playing 1B/DH already.
Posada can not be counted on to be a full-time catcher. Damon's noodle doesn't play well at any OF position. Matsui can barely move.
Signing Tex puts one of these guys on the bench OR you field a player who has no business being in the field any longer. Either way, the Yanks aren't putting their best team on the field.

Forst could be taking over for Beane as he possibly moves to soccer????
The A's allowed him to interview, he declined though...

Umm, the Yankees don't HAVE to get Teixeira to succeed. Starting pitching should be priority #1.
Although, if the Yankees don't get Teixeira, I'm pretty strongly leaning toward the Angels getting him. Since the Mets picked up Delgado's option and are in the NL (so no DHing), they won't get Teixeira. I really don't think Baltimore should or will sign Teix.

I agree rex Baltimore signing Tex would be a big mistake if they don't want to rebuild and are throwing around that kind of money they need to go after some pitching. I don't follow the O's that close but wasn't their hitting pretty good this year?

Is beane actually going to soccer?

Foot ferries...eww

Signing a 28 year old 1B would screw up the idea of going with younger talent? Rebuilding teams don't play Payton, Millar, Mora and Castro a combined 461 games.
Yes, the O's had a good offense. But they are getting rid of a 37 year old .234 .323 .394 1st Baseman.

This not pursuing Tex makes no sense from what the Yanks need as a solid 1B of the future, solid power/rbi +SW'er w/power for years to come and young along with being a gold glove caliber player. Reason why no pursuit? Albatross contracts already held, forcing them to play Posada, Matsui and maybe even Damon at 1B so that they will even be able to play in the field some?
Tex could be the best 1B to come along since mattingly, only this guy has better power and they might let him walk by only because they have bad contracts already owed? For a team that throws money everywhere, this seems like the 1 logical person for them to would have want to thrown it at in the last dozen years, he IS that good and may be still producing 10 years from now if forced to give him that many years on a contract.
With as much money being talked about in circles they are considering having freed up, Tx + a CC, or even Lowe if CC spurns them can work and they still might get some 1st round draft picks back from the FA signings if someone will sign some of the class "A" FA's they have and they offer them arbitration to help in the future in Abreu and maybe Moose's case.
Just cannot see the Yanks passing up on Tex and instead going after a combo of CC/Lowe/Sheets to force themselves back next year when it may not work and 1B is the glaring 1-8 position hole that they have and the 1-2nd best one over the last 10 years is finally available.

Umm... About the whole 3 people who can play 1B... Posada is a good hitting catcher, but if he were to play 1B, he wouldn't be as valuable. Personally, the Yanks should find a way to trade matsui to create a DH spot for Abreu. I take Abreu any day over Matsui.
