As a Giants Fan, I would love to see Giambi come back to the bay. It would be great to see him retire an Athletic.

No way in the world Giambi signs for that little. I've said it for months, I can see Giambi in a Jays uniform.

The A's would be insane to not a 2/20 deal to bring G-man back. I wouldnt think he would take that big a paycut, even though he doesnt need any more money. I think the A's would take him at 2/28 as well....
Cust showed greatly improved defense in LF, and if Barton still looks horrible at the big league level then Jason could play 1B and Buck/Cunningham could man LF with Cust to DH. bringing G-man home is a wise move regardless...

Me along with other a's fans would love to see cust gone. The a's have to be feed up with his all or nothing hitting. Also all his homers are meaningless homers. Giambi would be a great leader to lead the young group and a's fans still like him. They know he wanted to come back to the a's but beane would not give him a no trade clause. The only knock on a Giambi signing is that he is another left handed bat. With all the lefties I see the a's wanting to acquire a righthander.

what is dana eveland and greg smith's trade value? what is gallagher trade value? I think the a's need to move these players this off season and get some hitting.

Its funny to see how time has healed the wounds. I was at the game when a fan threw a beer at Giambi shortly after the whole Balco incident. I tell you that I've never heard the Oakland crowd give it to anyone like they did whenever Giambi came to bat.
I say Giambi doesn't come back to Oakland, no matter how nostalgic or fitting it would be. The man has the money, he wants a ring. He goes to a contender and I'm not so sure its with the Yankees either.
As for the payroll, how the hell do the Yankees figure to cut the payroll? Granted, a ton of money is coming off the books but opening up a new stadium fresh of missing the playoffs? No way, they have to pay up.

thegoods24 - speak for your own damn self, Cust is the best hitter the A's have had since Giambi.
His Home Runs wouldnt be so "meaningless" if we didnt have total scrubs like Crosby, Hannahan and Barton making outs constantly. Cust at least walks or homers. Strike outs are better than grounding into double plays.
Cust rules and you are way wrong about him, put a good bat (like a Giambi) behind him in the order and watch him really become a force.

thegoods24,
I'm with you I believe the A's should deal Smith/Braden/Eveland/Gallagher. Not as much Gallagher, but the rest of them are stop gaps until Cahill, Anderson, Simmons, and Inoa get up here. Yes I realize Inoa will be aways away. But deal some of them this winter then the rest of them at the trade deadline. And we should get fair compensation for them. Young quality starting pitching is a rare commoatidy.

InvaliduserID- they have about 80 mil coming off payroll. Just for arguments sake say they give CC and TEX 20 each. Thats still a reduction of 40 mil. They won 89 games without major contributions from Wang Posada and Matsui. They're not as far off as it looks despite finishing in 3rd place.

Analysis wise the single biggest incident that killed the Yankees this year was Jorge Posada's injury. there's no real helping that except crossing your fingers.
there's a ton of deadweight on the Yankee payroll and luckily some of it is comming off (namely, Carl Pavano) . it's hard to say how the Yankees will do going foward as there's some serious questions that need to be addressed.
the entire 1b /of situation needs to be looked at as awhole. I think the Yankees need to assume that Damon needs to play CF at least most of the time for them to remain effective offensively, letting Abreu walk is probably a good idea and signing one of Manny or Dunn is needed.
Pitching wise there is obviously risk going foward no matter what they do.

You can't be a Yankee fan and willing accept Manny on your team. It doesn't work that way.
I really like Damon but he's got no arm. Center is not the place for him. Too bad Austin Jackson is not ready yet.
I agree, if Posada is not 100% next year, it's going to be difficult to win.
While I'd like to give a 1-yr contract to Giambi and make a trade late in the year for a young 1st baseman, I really see him going to the Angels when they lose the bidding on Texeira.

Cust and Giambi and practically identical players at this point. Both hit home runs with a small amount of doubles. Both walk and strikeout. Neither runs well. Their primary difference is that Cust is the better defender, in the sense that hospital food is better than soup kitchen food.
Fortunately Beane has never been a nostalgia guy, and doesn't sign players in order to please the fan base, so hopefully this isn't in his plans.
Besides, dude left to play for those winners in New York, and even though I take pleasure in the fact that he didn't win with them, I can't let it go.
