Hank White deserves a lot of credit helping Geo. Come on back Henry.

name someone in toronto that is happy with JPR???

I wouldn't mind Pettitte coming back, both Drayton and Pettitte will have to swallow their pride and forget what happened a few yrs back. A

Oswalt
Wandy
Pettitte
Wolf
Moehler

Rotation isn't too shabby!!!

Has Griffey Jr been linked to the Cubs at all? Seems like a perfect fit. I know he isn't the hitter he was 5-10 years ago but he doesn't need to be. Teams still respect his presence and that would balance the lineup a little better then they have it set up now. You'd think Griffey would want to play there cause maybe the Cuns have a shot at....well I don't want to be the one to jinx it for you guys.

I like Pettitte to the Astros as well. He'd likely pitch better in the NL, and would be a good name and pitcher to fill out a slot in that rotation. A rotation of Oswalt, Wandy, Pettitte, Wolf and Moehler could easily keep Houston in contention for a while, if everyone stayed healthy.

As for Griffey to the Cubs, I think there are a lot of Chicago fans who saw just how far he's fallen. In right field he would be a below average defensive player, and at this point he's probably not going to give you more than .260/.360/.440 with 20-25 home runs, even if that. He's a solid fit, but the Cubs can likely do better.

If the Cubs do manage to land Peavy and bring back Dempster though, Griffey Jr. could be a very good cheap idea to find a lefty power bat.

Re: Teixiera or Fielder as targets for the Red Sox...

Only way any of this makes sense is if someone can identify a team willing to trade for Mike Lowell.

Or

Would the Red Sox be willing to trade David Ortiz?

If they can acquire Fielder, he could become the DH, as Lowell/Youk are far better defensively.

Also, if the cost for Fielder is 2 top prospects, but the Sox could manage to acquire 2-3 even better prospects for Ortiz in return, wouldn't that be a solid way to trade up.

Figure: Sox would downgrade a little with Fielder from Ortiz for the immediate future but possibly benefit for the longterm. Plus they would enhance their farm system by upgrading on the prospects they gave up to get Fielder via the Ortiz trade.

point of my last post is:

The Red Sox have a gold glove 1st baseman and gold glove 3rd baseman, both of which are quality offensive players whose bats should never be called a "lineup hole."

So why are all the reports out there indicating the Red Sox interest in a CI type to fill a "lineup hole."

Seems to me Catcher and a leadoff hitter were their biggest "lineup holes."

For the Red Sox I believe it's Teixeira or nothing. I think that the Sox value Tex as an all around player. He's the player the Red Sox covet. They will open the bank for him.

I would be SHOCKED if the Sox acquire Fielder and even more shocked if they trade Ortiz.

They are going after Teixeira only because he's their type of player and they wouldn't have to sacrifice young talent to get him.

I heard Olney say that the Giles to Oakland thing happened in late September. I think (not at all positive about this) that a waiver claim in August doesn't apply after the August 31st deadline (or something like that) and that a player can be placed on waivers again.

Recall that Micah Owings got claimed in August but the D-Backs were able to pass him through in September and send him to the Reds. It's probably a lot easier to get a guy through since anyone acquired would be ineligible for the playoffs. That's probably how the Giles to Oakland thing happened.

Scribble- And also he would have a better defense behind him then what he had with the Yanks ( The Astros were 1st in MLB with the least errors).

Everyone wonders about the left side of the INF( Tejada/Wiggy) But both did surprisingly well defending their positions.

But I agree that rotation would be good as long as everyone stayed healthy.

One thing:
Where do you type on the chat? I don't see where.

Also Pettite should just retire. He is nothing

wow thanks for the insight Jason, I think anything is worth a shot for the Astros at this point. It's not like we have a ton of options in the minors who are ready or a ton of money to spend on FA's SO, go get something that MIGHT work and hope it does. It really erks me that Wade doesnt disclose anything about trades or FA's he is after wish we could have a little more insight...just a little. and i agree El Caballo we did do well in defense last year.

I agree. We don't have many pitching prospects that are ready for the Majors yet. Yeah Pettitte had a down yr but he would do fine in Houston I would think. Its just Drayton and Pettitte needs to put the bad taste behind him them.

He wants to be a Yank and wants to pitch, but if the Yanks keep Moose from retiring and sign 2 of the FA's there won't be any room for Pettitte.

There are 4 starters Wade can be looking at.

Wolf- he did an impressive job with us, and would love to have him back.

Hampton- yeah I know he hasn't been able to stay healthy the last few yrs. But the 9-13 games he was in last yr without any complications is encouraging.... I would take him for 2-5 mil.

Sheets- Another good friend of Roy O. And yes he has been injured but if you think about it the Crew abused him/over worked him. If we got him and managed him correctly he could stay healthy

Pettitte- if he REALLY wants to pitch and the Yanks have no use for him, and he can forgive Drayton I would take him back.

"For the Red Sox I believe it's Teixeira or nothing. I think that the Sox value Tex as an all around player. He's the player the Red Sox covet. They will open the bank for him.

I agree with most of this... except with the years of the contract it would take to get Teixeira, I can't see them signing him.

I just can't see the Sox committing to any player for 8/10 years based on the decisions Theo has made in his tenure so far. Maybe you're right and Teixeira will be the exception.

I like Hank White, but I see this as an area to save money. He made 3mm this past year and could probably be had for about half that however, I think Koyle Hill can be a good backup to Soto while making the league minimum. This would be a good area to save a 1-2mm for the Cubs. Hill has a good glove and is a switch hitter. You may say that Blanco is a good mentor, but how much more can he teach Soto than he already has the past year and a half?

Just say no to the washed up Griffey. Hes not a CFer anymore.

Cubs were eiliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Go astros

Pettitte to any of the mentioned teams makes sense. Andy pitching for the Cubs makes sense because he would join a winning team with a average/slightly above average defense. The Astros may not have the same chance as the Cubs to make the playoffs with their roster but that's his home team I believe.

Clark, the way the Cubs and reports lean is that Henry will be resigned at a lower rate. Both Hendry and Henry want it to be with the Cubs.

Verizon- Cubs above average defense?yeah they showed that in the playoffs.

Second- not make the playoffs with our roster? If the Astros resign Wolf and get another pitcher ( sheets, pettitte, Hampton) We won't have to worry about Backe blowing up games. A rotation of

Oswalt
Wandy/Sheets
Pettitte/Wolf
Wolf/Hampton
Moehler.

Would be fine.... As long as they stay healthy. The Cubs have starters that have injuries also( Zambrano "dead arm" and Harden issue)

The Pen was a strong hold. And do remember Carlos Lee was out the last month 1 1/2.... And we had other injuries also.........

If the Astros stay healthy , from the rotation , fielders and pen we'll be fine.....

And Yes Pettitte is from around Houston.

Pettitte would be a nice pick up for the Cards.

Said it once, and I'll say it again.....SOX need to sign Tex. But I disagree with Papi's statement...Youk hit 29 HRs. He has 35-40 potential. Between the two leagues, Bay hit 31. Papi has averaged 30-35 HRs per season. So thats three 3+ HR potential players....

el caballo- really? there is a slash there because it means BETWEEN average and above average. they played very solid defense during the season and you're basing an entire seasons worth of statistics on three games? give me a break, I don't claim to know a lot but when people get on and comment on things they have no clue about, really? you can't base a claim on such a small sample size.

re: Giles

The Padres and Sox were able to strike a deal, but Giles vetoed the trade. Because it was vetoed, instead of just an impasse, maybe it canceled out the waiver claim. I'm not certain about this, however.

I think you really overstate Youk's potential power. He didn't show this kind of power in the minors and had his best power year this past year at 29. I think 25 HR is more like it.

On the contrary I think Youk has the power to hit 30 home runs, but he is not a home run kind of guy. He is the grinder that's going to be in every game and hit for both power and average. he doesn't strike out a lot and he really isn't swinging for the fences. He should be good right where he is and right with what he is doing.

As for the talks on Texiera to the Sox I don't see it happening.
1. As peagle8 said Theo won't give that many years
2. Every teams in the league is after him and will drive the price and years to ridiculous amounts.
3. The Sox don't NEED him that bad
4. Where do you put him?
Youk is your first baseman no questions asked and I think Lowell has another couple of years before he's done. I'd rather have them at the corners than Texiera.

We need a bat in the number four spot for sure, but Tex is not it.
