According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, the Dodgers and agent Scott Boras are finally gearing up for Manny Ramirez negotiations.
As was reported yesterday, Boras left a voicemail for Dodgers GM Ned Colletti on Tuesday. Well, Colletti shot him back a voicemail Wednesday morning and the two are expected to finish their game of phone tag after the New Year's holiday. The Dodgers, of course, made a two-year, $45 million offer with an option for a third during the Winter Meetings in November.

Braves got their ace and power bat?

Looks like a deal will probably be done within the next 4-6 days. Hopefully we can just get this done and out of the way so we can move on to address our pitching rotation.

That trade is horrible for the Braves and would never happen. Escobar, Francy, Campillo and Gorkys? Replace Escobar with Johnson and you may have a fair deal.
Manny gets two years and an option. Just my guess.

nice job wisbrave, guess we should all post links to crap that doesnt relate to the topic.
As for Manny, 3 years should do it. About 22-23 mill per. Let's do it!

Wait is the Braves deal true? What is that article?

DLR Wisdom: "It's not rocket surgery"....Get it done & quit sending each other to voicemail already.

O it's a mock trade. And a dumb one at that. Worst trade ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Frank Wren would never allow such a ridiculous trade to occur. Giving up Francoeur and Yunel. To potential all stars. And Campillo, a starter pitcher that we have so little of. Yea Greinke's got potential to be an ace and Guillen's got pop, but F that!!!! Stupid Mock trade. Stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now back to Manny. Two years $45 million. Expect it to be done by next week.
Posted by: BravoMan | December 31, 2008 at 08:58 PM
I doubt the Royals would do that deal just to dump Guillen...
Francouer stinks!
Campillo has always been hurt and is a back of the rotation starter.
Escobar is not going to net one of the best, cheap young starters in baseball...
Posted by: MikeClarke | December 31, 2008 at 10:28 PM
Not to mention the Royals have more OFs or Corner Infielders than they know what to do with...
Posted by: MikeClarke | December 31, 2008 at 10:29 PM
Trust me if I were in the Royals postion I would pray for that deal to be true. Francoeur has had one bad year and is only 24! Did we forget about his run at Rookie of the Year in 05 and his Glod Glove in 07. Yunel is the best defencive SS in the NL. Gorkys Hernandez is very young but is a speedy CF with potential. And Campillo had a comeback year last year. This deal would never happen because the Braves organization doesn't trade their young players unless they're getting enough ptential back and that's not it at all.

bravoman, is that enough exclamation points?
Posted by: Ivdown | December 31, 2008 at 11:01 PM
its funny how this turned into a braves topic like seriously out of nowhere.

First off, Happy New Year everyone!
Now to the point, if Ned Colletti is any good at negotiating he will be able to get Manny for less than 2 years and $45 million. Boras and Manny have virtually no leverage in this situation. The Dodgers have alternatives in terms of Dunn and Abreu, and they are virtually the only suitors for Ramirez. They put that initial offer out there for him before any of the other major singing and Boras didn't even have the courtesy to respond to it.
Colletti and the Dodgers have all the power in this negotiation. Despite Manny's gaudy second half numbers (which obviously count for something), Ned can point to Manny's antics as well as the things I just mentioned.

Ivdown,
Haha sorry I just wanted to get the point out how much I hated that made up trade. The guy who put that link on here put it on alot of subbjects so eveyone was talking bout the mock trade lol. Now back to Manny. I said before this deal will get done for 2 years 45mil and should be announced nxt week. Im glad the Manny sag is over. O and Happy New Year everyone!

I think at this point the Dodgers could actually sign Manny for a contract that includes less years or Dollars than the originally offered contract because of the deflated market for our loveable slugger. However, I think it would be a TERRIBLE move on Colletti's part to sign Manny for anything less that what was originally offered unless it is a 1 year deal. The last thing the Dodgers want is to pay a little less and piss off Manny to start a multi-year contract. He clearly doesn't care about the money since he doesn't even cash his payday checks. What he does care about is the respect. Signing him for anything less than the original offer would be seen by Manny as a huge disrespect and we may end up with Manny being Boston Manny.
My two cents. Peace-out kids! Happy New Year !!!

I'm still sticking to my gut feeling, Manny goes to the Yankees. I think their offices are closed during holiday, till Monday.

I dont know about Manny not caring about the money. "Gas is up & so am I" kind of speaks volumes. To a lot of these guys, money = respect.
