You actually accidentally linked this to the Felipe Lopez signing :|
Posted by: Matt | December 12, 2008 at 02:26 PM
NO! NOT Chris Burke. haha, j/k
Posted by: Shaun | December 12, 2008 at 02:29 PM
might as well add Taveras now.
Posted by: mkorpal | December 12, 2008 at 02:29 PM
WOW big list lol
Posted by: Larsen101 | December 12, 2008 at 02:35 PM
I linked it to the Lopez signing on purpose because that's where the Burke note is. Seems pretty firm as opposed to the Taveras thing.

I know the story was four or five paragraphs long, but here's the last one:
His signing means the D-Backs will not offer a contract to Chris Burke at today’s deadline. Burke will become a free agent.

www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/dec/12/rockies-likely-will-cut-ties-with-taveras-friday/
Seems just as firm as the Burke thing.
Posted by: mkorpal | December 12, 2008 at 02:38 PM
Oh ok. I thought you had made a mistake thinking that more players had been non-tendered already. Sorry! Poor Chris.
Posted by: Matt | December 12, 2008 at 02:39 PM
That's it...just Chris Burke?
Posted by: JimmyPage | December 12, 2008 at 02:44 PM
You sure you didn't make a mistake? You said here's a list of players who were nontendered, and you link to Lopez? Maybe it should have said here's a list of the only player who was non-tendered? (if that is the case?)
Posted by: juiced | December 12, 2008 at 02:44 PM
Juiced
I see what he's doing now. I thought the same thing. I think what he's doing is he made a post and he's just going to keep updating it, that way all of the non-tenders are in one thread as opposed to flooding the site with bad players (no offense!) that would cover up Teixeira, Dunn, Peavy and Burnett rumors.... Right?
Posted by: Matt | December 12, 2008 at 02:51 PM
Maybe it should have said here's a list of the only player who was non-tendered? (if that is the case?)
Posted by: juiced | December 12, 2008 at 02:44 PM
The deadline is midnight. I imagine, like most lists on this site, Tim will be adding as he gets more information.
Posted by: cmac1973 | December 12, 2008 at 02:55 PM
Hahaha! Poor guy. Here's a solution: the Astros are looking for a back-up SS for Tejada. I think they may have found their man (oh, the irony).
Posted by: thered86 | December 12, 2008 at 03:08 PM
the list will be updated. deadline is midnight.
Posted by: Cork Gaines | December 12, 2008 at 03:13 PM
I'm hoping for Jonny Gomes to be let go... and to be the starting LF for the Reds!
Posted by: Dan | December 12, 2008 at 03:13 PM
I'd really much prefer Milton Bradley, but I'm assuming the Reds aren't considering him... which is too bad in my book. He's really good.
I predict he'll be one of the few from this free agent class that will turn out to be a good signing.
Posted by: Dan | December 12, 2008 at 03:15 PM
ok im surprised no one has said this yet... Friday at midnight is the deadline for tender offers, which means, Taveras, Gomes, Cabrera, etc are still waiting a offer or waiting to become a FA
Posted by: ChiSoxKilla23 | December 12, 2008 at 03:17 PM
ok at least some people before me knew the deadline :)
Posted by: ChiSoxKilla23 | December 12, 2008 at 03:18 PM
Oop I mistook it. Thought he was linking to the paper not making list of names.
Posted by: juiced | December 12, 2008 at 03:28 PM
The Astros are looking for a backup shortstop AND a fifth outfielder...It would be truly ironic if they pick up both Burke and Taveras dirt cheap...
Posted by: Mistyck | December 12, 2008 at 03:56 PM
That's so sad...and funny.
Posted by: milehigh78 | December 12, 2008 at 03:58 PM
bigbaddbobbyjenks- If they don't reach an agreement today, he'll go to arbitration, which is perfectly fine.
No way in h3ll DJ Carrasco gets nontendered.
Posted by: melonis rex | December 12, 2008 at 04:43 PM
Surprised Burke would be let go.
Posted by: CubbyFan23 | December 12, 2008 at 04:52 PM
i wish yankees sign kevin cash to back up posada.
Posted by: Roberto | December 12, 2008 at 04:59 PM
Roberto - how does that make sense? Jose Molina is one of the best backups in the game!
Posted by: B3NG4L | December 12, 2008 at 05:03 PM
"Surprised Burke would be let go."
Why?
Burke made close to $1 million this year I believe and hit .194. No way the Dbacks should have brought him back.
Posted by: vtadave | December 12, 2008 at 05:05 PM
carrasco must have already been offered a contract before today.
Posted by: Gvelta | December 12, 2008 at 05:27 PM
Chris Cappuano could be a decent sleeper signing for someone.
Posted by: BadEnoughDude | December 12, 2008 at 05:30 PM
tim redding non-tendered, willie harris signed to a 2-year deal, zimmerman, olsen, willingham, and hill tendered contracts.

Posted by: Gvelta | December 12, 2008 at 05:30 PM
Chris Capuano is a great sleeper signing for a team who is sort of rebuilding but is still good enough to compete. He adds much needed depth to about 75% of all teams in baseballs pitching rotations which is never a bad thing if it comes at a reasonbale price.
Posted by: Rolling{Night}Hawk{09} | December 12, 2008 at 05:43 PM
Man I'd like to see KC go after Capuano...but they may not have the money to play with since they are going after Furcal as well.
Dayton Moore will probably try to pick Chuck James off the scrap heap as another Atlanta guy brought over....
Posted by: KC Hot Corner | December 12, 2008 at 05:50 PM
Capuano will catch on somewhere for sure. He was very solid in 06 and 07 before falling off a cliff. He is on the right side of 30 and he is a lefty who can miss bats. I'd like the Mets to take a look at'em.
Posted by: nrmax88 | December 12, 2008 at 05:53 PM
The Blue Jays could use a guy like Capuano. He's only a few years remvoed from a great season ('05: 18-12, 219 IP, 3.99 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, .256 BAA, 176 Ks).
Hmmm... interesting. On a side note, Burnett's best season as a Blue Jay was last year, and his stat line was pretty similar: 18-10, 4.07 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, .249 BAA, 231 Ks...
Posted by: Patrick | December 12, 2008 at 06:01 PM
OH HAPPY DAY!!!!!
alright don't anyone take this the wrong way but i am SOOO glad Tim Redding won't be with the Nats this year. That adds on about 3-4 phils wins this year. we NEVER beat him no matter who we're pitching against them.
Posted by: philsWSchamps | December 12, 2008 at 06:03 PM
Look for the Pirates to hit these pitchers up. I mean why not????
Posted by: Barroid_Bonds | December 12, 2008 at 06:04 PM
05 and 06 for Capuano** not 06 and 07.
Posted by: nrmax88 | December 12, 2008 at 06:07 PM
Well hey, at least now the Rockies can add Redding without having to go out and trade a young prospect like Morrillo.
And maybe the Mets can sign Redding to make the Mets-Phils rivalry even better, you know, so the Mets can actually win a few games against the Phils.
Posted by: Patrick | December 12, 2008 at 06:08 PM
According to Peter Abraham, the Yankees have non-tendered RHP Chris Britton and OF Justin Christian.
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/
Posted by: YankeeFan718 | December 12, 2008 at 06:09 PM
The Mets had an 11-6 record against the Phils last year, dude.
Posted by: CitizenSnips | December 12, 2008 at 06:09 PM
CitizenSnips - It was a joke.
Posted by: Patrick | December 12, 2008 at 06:10 PM
You know, since the Mets are 'choke artists'.
Posted by: Patrick | December 12, 2008 at 06:11 PM
has anyone heard that manny agreed to sign with the Cardinals for 5 years at 125 million?
Posted by: Adam Ricca | December 12, 2008 at 06:13 PM
ya bleedin blue,
it was 07 when we won the last 8 in a row vs the Mets and the season series.
Posted by: philsWSchamps | December 12, 2008 at 06:13 PM
"You know, since the Mets are 'choke artists'."
Maybe in 07. 08 was just a race to the finish line.
Posted by: CitizenSnips | December 12, 2008 at 06:16 PM
no way Manny would get 5 years. Though Albert Pujols, Manny Ramirez, Ryan Ludwik, Rick Ankiel is pretty scary
Posted by: Barroid_Bonds | December 12, 2008 at 06:17 PM
Mets choked in 08 too. The Marlins own them in the final stretch. Mets should start scheduling the Nats to finish off the season cuz the Marlins own them.
Posted by: Barroid_Bonds | December 12, 2008 at 06:18 PM
And I forgot the ever so mighty Troy Glaus too!!!!!!! (for the Cards line up of course)
Posted by: Barroid_Bonds | December 12, 2008 at 06:19 PM
why was the nats asking price for tim redding so high if they were just going to non tender him? You'd almost think they would be willing to take less than his actual value as long as it was comparable. must be trying to re-sign him to a better contract
Posted by: Markakis21 | December 12, 2008 at 06:22 PM
Yankees had to let Britton go, the new stadium doesn't have enough room for a spread to feed CC, Joba, and him.
Posted by: angelsfan67 | December 12, 2008 at 06:22 PM
Jose Molina is pretty fat too.
Posted by: Barroid_Bonds | December 12, 2008 at 06:24 PM
enough with the choke crap!! You know the Phils did end up going 13-3 to end the season and then followed that up with 11-3 in the playoffs.
The Mets went 10-10 down the stretch. That's not choking. That' just clutch play from the Phils.
Posted by: philsWSchamps | December 12, 2008 at 06:25 PM
I want to hear whether Gomes, Cabrera, and Taveras get non-tendered or not.
Posted by: melonis rex | December 12, 2008 at 06:26 PM
wonder what Brandon "get to drunk and fight cops, then say don't taze me bro" Backe is doing before he goes unsigned
Posted by: AstrosCoverage.blogspot.com | December 12, 2008 at 06:30 PM
Why in the world would the Yankees non-tender Christian and Britton?
Britton's still a really solid reliever, he'll end up being a great middle guy somewhere this year.
Posted by: CubbyFan23 | December 12, 2008 at 06:34 PM
They didn't give Britton enough chances. He's not bad.
Posted by: Coletrain | December 12, 2008 at 06:44 PM
first of all, the cards have, at most, $15 mil left for this season, which means no manny. Second, we have 6 major league outfielders on our roster, which means we don't have room for him. third, we should take a waiver on capuano... he could return to form under the best pitching coach in baseball: DD
Posted by: MVPujols | December 12, 2008 at 06:56 PM
Capuano will be re-signed by the Brewers for a lesser deal - it is not in their plans to dump him completely. He is already in negotiations. He was paid over 3 million to sit last season. No way they would pay 20% less than his previous contract for a guy with two TJ sugeries. Brewers were very loyal to Capuano and let him try to rehab without surgery first which could have and did end his chance to pitch in 08. There is no guarantee he will be any good. He has a GREAT pickoff move but he only has two pitches. He also had an 18 game losing streak I believe. He is a REAL longshot.

Jose Molina is pretty fat too.

I dont understand the Cash move on the Red Sox part. They still need someone to catch Wake and give whoever their catcher ends up being an off day.

"I dont understand the Cash move on the Red Sox part. They still need someone to catch Wake and give whoever their catcher ends up being an off day."
Kottaras is out of options and can catch the knuckleball. My bet is he'll be the back up in a worse case scenario.
Posted by: start_wearing_purple | December 12, 2008 at 08:08 PM
Reds should inquire on Taverez, James, Redding, Haeger maybe
Posted by: GmblngPtchr20 | December 12, 2008 at 08:09 PM
Takashi Saito was non-tendered by the Dodgers after turning down a 1 year offer. He has a new agent apparently. They may still try to bring him back. Otherwise he has to go back to Japan.
Proctor was also non-tendered, along with Berroa.
Posted by: Craig Phillips | December 12, 2008 at 08:12 PM
The Dodgers have non-tendered Takashi Saito, Angel Berroa, Yhency Brazoban, Scott Proctor and Mario Alvarez. The team would not rule out some of them back, including Saito.
http://blogs.pe.com/prosports/mlb/dodgers/
Posted by: MikeClarke | December 12, 2008 at 08:19 PM
If the Dodgers don't get Furcal does this mean Hu is the guy all year or is Dejesus ready?
Posted by: BucSox | December 12, 2008 at 08:32 PM
The Mets technically overachieved in July and August, got slightly too far ahead, and sank back to Earth. They just weren't that good. Other than Reyes and Delgado's second half, they had no clutch offense, Santana and Pelfrey were the rotation, and the bullpen was horrible.
Posted by: metsobsessed | December 12, 2008 at 08:38 PM
Add Ty Wigginton to the list. The Astros just non-tendered him.

Posted by: Mistyck | December 12, 2008 at 08:46 PM
yankees should look into proctor again just to add insurance in case someone goes down. saito had amazing numbers im surprised he got non tendered hopefully someone picks him up soon after taking notice to this.
Posted by: Rolling{Night}Hawk{09} | December 12, 2008 at 08:47 PM
"yankees should look into proctor again just to add insurance in case someone goes down. saito had amazing numbers im surprised he got non tendered hopefully someone picks him up soon after taking notice to this."
Beat me to it - I think he's gonna come back to the Yanks.
Posted by: hallofamer2000 | December 12, 2008 at 08:54 PM
Mets looking for a replacement bench infielder?? How about Angel Berroa? So he hasn't hit well since his rookie year I've always been a fan. He's good with the glove and plays hard... Can't be much worse than Cora
Posted by: RIPShea | December 12, 2008 at 08:54 PM
What do you guys think about Taveras as a 4th outfielder for the sox? Pickup more speed than Crisp had, and what I remember from two years ago he isn't that bad defensively either.
Posted by: localhost | December 12, 2008 at 08:54 PM
Saito to the Tigers?
Posted by: Rob M. | December 12, 2008 at 08:58 PM
Uh why on earth would Wigginton get non tendered?
I guess we have the Twins new 3B.
Posted by: CubbyFan23 | December 12, 2008 at 09:01 PM
Lol sorry hallofamer2000 but i am glad we agree that Proctor would be a great fit for the Yankees if say Bruney or someone else gets injured or is inconsistent. He would add much needed depth.
RIPShea i understand what you are talking about regarding Angel Berroa that he was once Rookie of the Year over Matsui and should be given a shot but this guy is so horrible that you kinda need a steady veteran (Alex Cora) so if Castillo does bad Cora could step in and you know what kind of production your getting from him unlike Berroa who would just be another question mark 2B and the Mets have too many of those.
Posted by: Rolling{Night}Hawk{09} | December 12, 2008 at 09:05 PM
I'd take Berroa or Cora. They both must be better than our old friend Slappy McMediocre.
Posted by: metsobsessed | December 12, 2008 at 09:06 PM
According to the Baltimore Sun Daniel Cabrera has been non-tendered.
Posted by: XD23 | December 12, 2008 at 09:09 PM
Castillo win be our 2B and I think he will be very adequate too. Last season left a terrible taste in his mouth but he battled injuries all year I mean you can't expect more than he did
Posted by: RIPShea | December 12, 2008 at 09:09 PM
>>Uh why on earth would Wigginton get non tendered?<<
Because our penny pinching owner is trying to save on money by non-tendering the guy that was a very big part of the Astros 2nd half run...
Look for Roy Oswalt to ask for a trade now...Berkman and Lee may end up doing the same.
Posted by: Mistyck | December 12, 2008 at 09:11 PM
can't believe we got Blake for 17 million and now a better player (and cheaper) is available. I hate Ned Colletti and his balls should be chopped off!
Posted by: dusto | December 12, 2008 at 09:13 PM
Makes no sense. 3B who had a .870 OPS last year, and you can't pay him 6M?
*head explodes*
Posted by: CubbyFan23 | December 12, 2008 at 09:13 PM
Btw I was mistaken re Saito. Dodgers would have needed to offer him arbitration for him to be only their property or have to go to Japan, but they did not. So now he is out of their control. His elbow is a major concern, obviously. I thank for his amazing service and winning personality. Any team that signs him is going to be taking a major risk at this point. Not sure why he wouldn't agree to the short contract.
Posted by: Craig Phillips | December 12, 2008 at 09:15 PM
CubbyFan: The NL Central won't have to worry about the Astros in 2009...they are going to be worse than the Pirates and Roy O will be on another team...
Posted by: Mistyck | December 12, 2008 at 09:18 PM
I'd rather have Blake actually than Wiggington. Ty is a good utility guy at this point. The Dodgers already signed one in Mark Loretta. He K's too much and doesn't walk enough. 23 HRs is nice. That many hr's with only 58 rbis, not so nice. Both he and Blake have good attitudes, teammates like playing with them. Wiggington is worse defensively. in short, you're overreacting, dusto.
Posted by: Craig Phillips | December 12, 2008 at 09:19 PM
If Colletti had waited a week, he could have gotten Wiggy with it...
Posted by: MikeClarke | December 12, 2008 at 09:22 PM
I havnt heard about any interest for Saito.
Where do you suppose he lands? I assume the Tigers are interested...
Posted by: dtigerman | December 12, 2008 at 09:25 PM
Doubt the Tigers will spend the little money they say they have on a pitcher with a big time injury
Posted by: RIPShea | December 12, 2008 at 09:27 PM
I doubt they have that much to spend/are willing to spend now, especially with the big 3 bailout being turned down.
Posted by: dtigerman | December 12, 2008 at 09:29 PM
Wiggy is much better (and cheaper) than Blake.
Posted by: CubbyFan23 | December 12, 2008 at 09:29 PM
umm wiggington is younger cheaper and can play 2b 3b and corner outfield. looks like bill smith made a good call letting blake go so long as he snaps up wiggington right freaking now. we trade no prospects and get a solid 3b. Thank you jesus you know Bill Smith would have screwed up a trade...
Posted by: Den_Orath | December 12, 2008 at 09:33 PM
Wigginton has TWINS written all over him...
please
please
pleaseeeeee
Posted by: twinsfan | December 12, 2008 at 09:37 PM
Wiggington is a better hitter than Blake...
Posted by: Rob M. | December 12, 2008 at 09:37 PM
If the Twins don't make a strong run at Wigginton I give up. This is like shooting fish in a barrel Smith...
Posted by: jhawk90 | December 12, 2008 at 09:39 PM
I think the White Sox sign Taveras for sure, he is pretty much on the team. I think Cabrera is a maybe and Gomes is a maybe.
Posted by: ChiSoxKilla23 | December 12, 2008 at 09:43 PM
ChiSoxKilla
Gomes is only an option if the Sox trade Dye. Taveras seems logical to sign and Cabrera too. Cooper can work with him and Ozzie isn't gonna take any crap, forcing him to calm down his attitude.
Posted by: Tough | December 12, 2008 at 09:58 PM
I know we're probably going to get Cameron and maybe that's the right decision but man, the idea of Tavera/Gardner lefty/righty platoon sounds like a killer. I say a highlight of a game against the ChiSox where he drove in the only 2 runs for the Rocks and stole 5 bases in the game as well. And he makes it look so easy, most of the throws weren't even close.
Posted by: YanksFanSince78 | December 12, 2008 at 09:58 PM
The Giants will kick the ties on Wiggington for sure.
Posted by: kdub | December 12, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Remember when people thought they could get Ian Kennedy for Tavares?
Posted by: hallofamer2000 | December 12, 2008 at 10:11 PM
I really hope the Braves go after Ty Wigginton seeing as how he supposedly can play corner outfield which is something they need add to the fact the 23 HRs and the right handedness
Posted by: drumzalicious | December 12, 2008 at 10:21 PM
