According to Christian Red of the New York Daily News, Pedro Martinez plans on playing again next year.
"I do want to play," Martinez told the Daily News.
Now, Martinez is in the Dominican Republic, working out to prepare for the season, but we won't see him sign a contract any time soon. He says he's not going to try to find a team until January.

Hope to see the Indians offer a
Any chance the Indians pursue Pedro? I'd love to see him as our #3 with Westbrook out. Maybe other teams shy away and we can lure him with a mid base and high incentive one year deal? Definitely need another starter. I don't see the Tribe getting an impact infielder.

Pedro is a #5 and nothing more.
I think he goes to the Nationals or Pirates.

Does Pedro have anything left in the tank?

''I'd love to see the Mets stick with Pedro and offer him a one year deal with an option and incentives. He still has what it takes as long as he is given a shot. I'm sure he'd like to prove to Met fans he can still be a very good pitcher''
I agree. One year, $3-4 million with work and performance-based incentives. I really think Pedro, as he's entering his late 30's, will get used to pitching with his loss in velocity. He's way too smart and crafty of a pitcher to let age catch up with him so quickly. He had that freak injury in the second game of the season, dealt with the loss of his father, and now he'll be fully recovered from his reconstructive surgery. I think anyone that picks him up could be getting a bargain here.
And for the Mets, after signing or trading for a #3-4 starter, could use Pedro as insurance in case Jon Niese doesn't make the strides in Spring Training. And even if he does, one of those guys could be used as insurance when one of the starters goes on the DL.

Perez and Boras will be outlandish in their request.
Also would like the Pirates to sign Pedro.

the Halos could use him on a one-year deal if Garland leaves...

Also... Denny Bautista is his nephew.
Pedro refers to him as, "my son, my baby boy".

Nationals come to my mind. I wounder how much he will demand?

Is that the real Josh Sharpless? Nah, couldn't be... than again, I have trouble thinking there's a guy out there who is such a huge Sharp fan that he uses Sharp's name on MLBTR? So who are you, Mr. Josh Sharpless?

He can't cost much more than Randy Johnson would demand, say 4-7 million on a one year deal?

Bill James Handbook has his 2009 Projections as:
20 starts / 9-5 / 120 IP /106 H / 32 BB / 122 K / 3.36 ERA
If I was the Phillies and could not resign Moyer, I'd take a chance at him being the Phillies #5 Starter with Happ getting in what Pedro can't...

thank you, mr. mancrush on Sharp

Wouldnt it be great if he signed a one year deal to go to the dodgers
Posted by: manny99 | December 06, 2008 at 01:51 PM
$2-$3 million with enough performance bonuses to boost that up to $7-$8 million would be as high as I'd go with Pedro. Just too much risk. Gotta be concerned about the amount of innings he can pitch.

The Dodgers will sign him to a 1 year contract...They have a thing for guys who used to play for the Red Sox (Nomar,Manny,Lowe)...If they don't sign him,i could see him with the Nationals,Blue Jays (if they don't get Burrett back and the Tigers going after him.

There is one CC Jr that deserves a shot after how he ended AAA and how he's doing well in the Venezuelan Winter League.
Oh and IMO Pedro is shot. maybe it was his father's passing, but by the end of the year, by my recollection, the Mets should have been looking for reasons to bypass him in the order. Could he turn it around, possibly. But those that say 4-7 million? NO way. He is 2 million + incentives.
