« Cards Could Pursue Free Agent Pitchers | Main | Braves Reluctant To Bring Back Jones? »
The Tigers are interested in Jason Isringhausen and Brandon Lyon, according to MLB.com's Jason Beck.
Four teams with closer needs are considering Isringhausen, according to his agent, Dan Horwits. Isringhausen could make a decision by next week. Ken Rosenthal had a similar report yesterday that suggested the Cardinals could be interested and the Dodgers aren't.
Beck writes that Lyon's on a "similar timetable." Lyon's agent, Barry Meister, says his client has drawn interest from four or five teams. Some teams view him as a setup man and others can see him pitching in the eighth and ninth innings. The Tigers have talked with Meister about Lyon recently.

The Tigers need both of these guys actually because it doesn't look like they have a setup guy or closer. Am I wrong here? Isringhausen in the 8th and Lyon in the 9th woudn't be too bad but I doubt they can afford both. I wonder what their budget is and how much these guys are looking for.

Isn't Iggy horrible?
But really,
How would their offseason be if they didn't have the ridiculous contracts of Sheffield, Willis, Robertson, and Inge?
That's $40 million to spend!

DO IT!!!!! Sign both of them.
We need somebody to replace the horrible Rodney and the injury prone Zumaya.

Please take Izzy, so the Cards aren't tempted to re-sign him!

Isringhausen is a perfect fit, imo

out of the two i would rather have lyon, but i wish they would pursue cordero more aggressively. Wont the tigers have a leg up on the competition for lyon considering they would give him the keys to the closer position while other teams want him as a setup man?

Well, whaddya know. DD maybe has a pulse after all! Lyon is not the greatest option, but maybe he's a bad idea whose time has come. DD waited and balked at every decent closer option, so now we're down to this.
Beats the hell outta Rodney, though. At least Lyon saved over 80% of his games with the D Backs before being yanked as the closer. I'd prefer Cruz, even at the cost of an extra draft pick. Lyon should be able to do as well as the coaster did.
Isringhausen scares me. The Cards need a closer too, and they're not taking another chance on Jason. They have a couple of in house options unlike the Tigers.
The Tigers need more help than just a closer in the bullpen, but this would be a good start.

It's going to be a very rough next couple of years for the Tigers
They have an average farm system, and that's being kind...
They have many "great" young arms with a lot of potential
Their position players are quite average
In the next 3 to 5 years, the Tigers will probably have a very strong bullpen, but a rather weak lineup (the opposite as it is now, ironically)

November 13? But it's only January.

They picked him in the future!
Cool!
The new revolution!!

We have a couple guys coming to spring training that could land a spot in our bullpen and no one ever mentions thats. While we do need a closer, we dont need to spend money for bullpen help when who knows what players from are farm system that we havent seen will step up and have a good rookie season. DD has lost his touch, but we still have options we've never seen. Who cares about minor league numbers, someone might be able to surprise us...what else do we expect, we already were letdown all last year so why not think positive rather than talk about how bad the tigers will be. No one knows until the season starts.

They should sign both and John Larrish as a low risk move.
