« Odds And Ends: Yankees, Pedro, Mets | Main | Olney On Strasburg »
According to Chad Jennings of the Scranton Times Tribune the Yankees signed Casey Fossum; he will start for AAA Scranton today. Fossum pitched in three games for the Mets this year before they designated him for assignment. The 31-year-old veteran of 237 major league games pitched well in the minors this April, striking out 12 in 11 innings and allowing ten baserunners.

Phew, I was getting worried. Good to help out the AAA team, as well.

With the state of the Yankee pen, I think this signing is for the big club, not the AAA club. Fossum will be with NY asap.

they just need a warm body to start for AAA with Jason Johnson and Ian Kennedy injured and Phil Hughes promoted, he might only be in the Yanks organization for a couple weeks while people recover from injury.

I had no idea the Yankees were already in this much trouble. Fossum just should not be pitching in the bigs.

Fossum will be another lefty in the big leagues if he does well in AAA...He might be called in to face lefties since Marte has been a huge bust so far..

Doesn't hurt to keep this kind of AAAA guy stashed in AAA, just for emergency purposes. Boston and other teams do it, you never know and it's better than rushing up guys like Clagget that are not ready and them getting lit up. Good move on the Yanks part. Fossum can be called up for long relief if need be, or a spot start and DFA'd with little loss, or even waived and probably clear and sent back down like several guys that the Sox have. Smart pick up and Fossum can be useful, more so that a lefty the Yanks had last year in Trabor.

It's just a depth thing. Kennedy will miss a start and Jason Johnson has a labrum tear so he could be done. Plus, Igawa was continued to be awful.

Not that it really matters, but Fossum actually pitched in 3 games for the Mets this year.

Was anyone able to watch today's game on TV? I couldn't find it anywhere and I have the mlb cable package.

I have to agree with johns here. This was a smart pickup for the Yankees. Fossum is a versatile guy. He'll end up patching several holes before the season is over and will suck a good deal less than Marte or Igawa.

I am watching it now YFS78, it shouldn't be effected by the Fox blackout.

I take it you mean the NYY-Anaheim game right? It is not blacked out on MLB.com is what I meant on earlier post above.

I'm in Cleveland and they (mlb premium baseball channels) aren't showing any of the games being played today other than the 7 pm games.

You should just be blacked out of the 3pm-7pm games YFS78 and games starting before and after that time frame ok. That is how it has been before and this year for me at least. I am in Tampa area and only affected by Rays games now.
