Haudricourt didn't say Riske was for sure having Tommy John surgery. Just that it was a possibility.

I know- but McCalvy and others have reported it.

I'm sure Peavy will give some BS answer like he'll "entertain" the possibility of playing for Philly in an attempt to get the Cubs or Dodgers to step up their offers for him.

From McCalvy's article.
"but assistant general manager Gord Ash wrote on his Twitter feed that the extent of the procedure would be determined once Yocum had a look at the damage inside the elbow."

That or he wants to ask some of the pitchers how it is pitching in the bank. He may want to talk to some players about playing in Philly.

Then can they press reset and start the video game over again?
I think it's safe to say you're not going to see an 11 player trade, especially one which doesn't make much sense for the two teams, take place.

interested to see Peavy tonight and his response. maybe if he sees the Phils offense again first hand and the tear him up tonight he rethinks the distance. Also wonder out loud if this phils (i highly doubt it) would consider a Clemens type deal where he doesn't travel with the team etc. I'm sure Peavy's not the type to do that either but its sad watching him lose all those close low scoring games. A lefty righty of Hamels and Peavy would make for one scary twosome come playoff time, especially if no current major league talent goes back to the Padres (ie just Carrasco, Taylor etc). Personally I'd rather send Carrasco and Werth and have Taylor come up and bat in the 7th hole. no pressure on him there although i'm sure the pads would want a longer time controlled player like Taylor.

Au contrare William. This is good trade. From the Astros perspective they dump $28.6M in salaries for 2009, 2010 and 2011. They take back about $19M in 2009, commit to $10M (up to $19M) in 2010 and about $1M in 2011. The Sox assume $8.6M in additional annual salary in 2009, committ to at least that much more in salary again in 2010 and also in 2011
Astros get a top prospect, three starting pitchers, a lefty reliever, a starting shortstop, backup catcher and interm 1st baseman who can hit for power.
Sawx get a proven, quality #2/3 starter, a 1st baseman who can hit with power and fill the #3 slot and a defensive catcher who can hit for the future (whom they previously tried to draft in 2007 while he was at Stanford)
Astros get younger, their payroll gets smaller and they get players who can help them rebuild.
Sox plug a hole in the field, in the lineup, in the pitching rotation, and acquire the young catcher they have been looking for. They also create roster spots for Smoltz and Buckholtz.

Hawk- I agree the trade can make sense for both teams, but it is way too complicated to ever come close to fruition.
Also, I don't think the Astros would want anything to do with Wakes. That Texas heat would make him almost useless. Heat and humidity and the knuckleball do not mix.
