« Tigers Rumors: Polanco, Rodney, Lyon, Everett | Main | Odds And Ends: Beltre, Capuano, Blanton »
If you're a regular reader of this site, then this addition to the MLBTR Glossary won't be a confusing one, but we can never be too clear when we're talking about the busiest trading day of the year.
Teams looking to trade players without first putting them on waivers must do so by 4pm EST on July 31st. Last year we saw Manny Ramirez, Jason Bay, Ken Griffey Jr., and Ivan Rodriguez all dealt at the deadline.
Two of the reasons it tends to be such a busy day: teams have a better sense of their place in the pennant race and they want to deal before August, when pulling off trades for top talent becomes much harder.
