White Sox Sign Freddy Garcia

According to Buster Olney at ESPN, the White Sox have agreed to a minor-league deal with right-hander Freddy Garcia. He passed a physical and now will report to the Sox training facility in Arizona.

Garcia, who turns 33 on Wednesday, was released by the Mets April 28th after putting up an 8.18 ERA in 11 innings at Triple-A Buffalo. He hinted at retirement around that time due to persistent troubles with his shoulder. Garcia pitched for the Sox during their World Series run in 2005 and into 2007.

As reported by Mark Gonzales at the Chicago Tribune, this comes on the heels of a vintage Ozzie Guillen outburst after the Sox dropped a game to the Tigers today, their sixth loss in seven games. Guillen said changes would be coming "Pretty soon."

good grief.

oh and for the ozzie lovers out there, today's explosion was vintage ozzie guillen. just beautiful.

it sucks as a sox fan, but it's worth it to see ozzie snap like that.

Garcia and the Jugs machine will now battle it out in Arizona.

Ozzie Guillen meltdown? Is there video?

not just yet, but i'm a-waitin' for it.

all i can find is audio of it on the score's website. classic.

Can't find the audio on the site, the "manager's show" isn't Ozzie with the quotes in the article or melting down; he seems calm.

Colon isn't good. Contreras wasn't really dominating the minors. Garcia isn't going to really do much. Is it time to start questioning the Sox' pitching depth, if they are a contender.

lol ha, like freddy garcia is gonna help the white sox, there fucked.

Although, anyone think that KW pulls some huge move out of thin air really soon? KW has known to both surprise and cater to whims of Ozzie.

Firing Ozzie would be a great move if you ask me...He's good enough with in game moves, but he can't handle himself in a professional manor.

i knew 86mets would strike sooner rather than later.

rex, it's on the boers and bernstein podcast from today, a little more than halfway through.

contreras is looking ok through 4, but i'm over him, along with colon and sure as s*** garcia. you're right about the pitching depth, and it feels weird to say that.

if KW did storm out of the clubhouse, i hope it was with cel phone in hand.

ozzie is doing his job. you hate him and not the players. that's the sole purpose of him acting the way he does, you're playing right into it. he's admitted it many times over.

freddy garcia is a tomato can

"lol ha, like freddy garcia is gonna help the white sox, there fuc**d."

lol i hate you but that made me laugh for like 5 minutes.

@ pariah...
What can I say, I can't stand the guy. He may be the only manager in the majors that makes me glad the Mets have Jerry.

Hm. Yes. Freddy Garcia and his 75mph heat is just what the Sox need to take over the AL Central

I wouldn't see bob melvin come in. I also wouldn't mind seeing joey cora take the job

I would like bob melvin sorry

Ozzie is not the problem. The Softball type hitters are. Kenny Williams didnt make the moves during the winter to make the team better. I'm sure he's on the phone trying to do what ever it takes to improve the club. The Sox should be on the phone trying to trade Jermaine Dye to the Braves for Jeff Francoeur and a prospect. Send Octavio Dotel to the Phillies for John Mayberry

I wish these Braves fans would stop shoving their pipe dreams in other peoples faces thinking that the Sox would trade Dye to the Braves for Francouer. Nobody wants him and especially for Dye. Who exactly is slotted to start in RF for the Sox next year.....???? Well in that case I don't think Dye is going anywhere unless we are far out of it and some team blows Kenny away. Keep Francouer and any other garbage like him to yourself.

i heard that david wells and estaban loiza are next, just because they worked a few years ago don't mean they work now, i see kenny swinging a big deal soon though, he hasn't this season yet he has to be antsy by now

White Sox getting ready to announce their latest signing of Shingo Takatsu and Cliff Pollite.

Seriously though, it's a minor league deal. Low risk, low reward.

Low risk low low low reward. I remember last year when Ozzie said garcia wasn't good enough to pitch in the majors. and then he went to detroit and got smashed bu the whitesox in the game to make the playoffs. If he is gonna be effective he might need until the all star break to work things out.

They're getting the band back together. Seriously, they aren't counting on Garcia to do anything. Ozzie's giving his nephew-in-law a job, just to see if he has anything left in the tank.

Also, that "blow-up" does not even register on the Ozzie scale. Big deal - he said if you're hitting 210-230 you should at least be able to execute. Anyone disagree?

Not quite 'vintage' Ozzie. He has blown up before much better...and funnier. Anyway, I agree with some others that he does this thing when the team is playing poorly. He is about due to rant that maybe he should be fired or retire. The focus goes to him and off the players bad performance.

I don't see this as any difference maker. If he is good enough to make the team, than maybe he can help, but it's more likely he's just signing on so he can retire as a White Sox. I doubt he sees any time in the majors.

I think Ozzie should be going off on his players, they needed a kick in the ass with the way they were playing. They got shut out 3 times in 4 games, they are an all or nothing team, and they probably have the worst average with runners in scoring position in the whole league.

and 86 Mets, I'm glad you have Jerry too, he was god aweful when he was with the Sox. He had 3 better teams than the one that won in 05, and couldn't even make the playoffs. I know he made it in 2000, but that team wasn't better than 05.

Carl Everett is anxiously waiting by the phone.

Any news on Betemit? Is he gone for good or sent to the minors? I hope he's gone.
