Yankees Sell Linden To Japanese Team

Chad Jennings of The Scranton Times Tribune reports that the Yankees have sold outfielder Todd Linden to the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Japanese Pacific League. Linden had been playing in Triple-A, where he hit .312-.381-.515 in 268 plate appearances. The Yanks agreed to the move after Linden had come to terms with his new Japanese club.

Linden is second player the Yankees have agreed to sell to the Golden Eagles within the last eight months. They received $1MM for the rights to RHP Darrell Rasner back in November,

Not that Linden mattered to the Yanks plans really, but why sell a guy who MIGHT be needed if someone goes down? Not like we need the money or anything. Maybe it's to clear a spot in AAA?

I'm actually very impressed with how well Linden played this year. I kind of looked forward to seeing him in the majors again; maybe he could have succeeded this time?

Yanks have Austin jackson waiting for his call up. Linden wouldn;t have gotten a chance most likely. But I am surprised they sold him anyways. He might have been useful in a trade for a RP later possibly. h well I guess the Yanks are hurting for cash right now with that failure of a stadium.

Here's a guy who deserved a shot to play everyday for 3 months and never got a chance to show what he was made of. The moron Giants promoted him from AAA where he was winning the triple crown and instead of playing him every day, said "hey we want you to pinch hit twice a week" you dont do that to a guy who is OPSing 1120.

From there he developed attitude problems but its mostly because he was on a team that had no idea what they were doing and played Jason Ellison and Michael Tucker over him. Some guys just dont get a fair shake in this game, Todd Linden is the perfect example of that.

I highly doubt the Yankees need the cash and what exactly makes it a failure of a stadium?

Although I do agree with you that Linden should've been used as trade bait, I know he probably doesn't have too much value as a soon to be 29 year old OF with a career line of .231/.303/.335 in the majors. But he probably could've been used at least as a throw in along with someone else for a reliever, which I think would be more valueable to the Yankees than cash.

Linden has never gotten a fair shake given his ability to hit the baseball. I hope he makes a ton of money in Japan.

I tell you...I would rather see Linden on the Yankees bench rather than Berroa. I give Girardi credit for the way he's handled all the injuries but I really would've liked to see him bring up a AAA bat for the bench when Arod came back (Duncan, Linden or Miranda) and give Melancon a shot in the bullpen.

Quick question, if a player's contract is sold to a team outside the major leagues, especially out of the country, does the player have to agree to the trade?

well seeing how they had to cut prices in half to sell tickets i'd say thats a major failure. and then the whole hr thing is a big screw up they will have to fix in the offseason.

Um... I'm sure if that if they sold their best tix for the same prices as the Royals ($250), they'd sell out, easily. However, 50% x $1250 is greater $250. Maximizing revenue is not the same as selling all seats (especially since those seats have free food).

He might have asked for a move, knowing he wasn't getting a chance in NY anytime soon.

Unless you are really concerned about the performance of your AAA team, there is no reason to cry Yankees fans. This move is best for both parties. Linden is a career minor leaguer at best. He looks totally lost against major league pitching.

I don't understand why everybody freaks out about the Yankees stadium increasing HR's. Who cares? Two points. One, it is an INSANELY small sample size, there could be other factors, like the old stadium or whatever. Two, why should the Yankees give a hell what anybody else thinks? The really good pitchers in this league will succeed wherever. Cole Hamels dominates in Philly, Edinson Volquez was lights out for Cinci last year, Cueto has been filthy, Buehrle has been great in the cell forever, Halladay in Toronto, etc. The way I see it, the Yankees will mash tons of homeruns and guys like CC, won't be negatively effected by the small park anyway. Just bring in lots of ground ball pitchers and continue to use the park to your advantage.
