Awwww yeah here comes the comeback!

Lol, have fun with him. That should solve your offense problem, I mean he was SO brilliant for us.

I tell you, no love loss on Berroa but why Girardi seems attached to Cody Ransom is beyond me. The guy is an average at best defender and looks completely lost at the plate. Never, ever, ever have I seen an opposing AL manager intentionaly walk a .280 hitter w/ decent power(Melky Cabrera) with two outs and a runner on 1st. You see it in the NL with the pitcher on deck but never in the AL. And what does he do? Works a 3-0 count to a 3-2 count and then looks at a fastball right down the plate. He looks absolutely lost. Don't understand why a) Girardi replaced Arod with Ransom as opposed to Hinske? b) Why he choose to keep Ransom vs Pena? I know Pena needs everday at bats but I'd rather have his .260/.320 bat w/ an amazing glove at 2b, SS, 3b over Ransom's "alleged" power bat (zippo hrs in over 68 at bats) and mediocre defense. At least Pena does at least 1 thing exceptionally well.

I guess Minaya wants a chance at Bryce Harper.

There is no way Omar has a job next year...

The team adds Berroa and Francour in a 24 hour period? Who is doing their scouting? That man might need to be fired.

lol i love how some of the idiots posting here are whining over this pickup as if it actually effects the current team.. berroa is going to aaa and will stay there, even though i think he should be on the team over argenis reyes whose a joke.
Posted by: Baseball Nut | July 11, 2009 at 02:31 PM
I think the Mets thought they were claiming Yogi Berroa.
Posted by: Joegottago | July 11, 2009 at 02:31 PM
Berroa is a pile of pooh but really, at the end of the day are you guys really going to knock Minaya for picking up a utility IF who's probably going to shuttle back and forth from AAA to the Mets as a utility guy? Is that really such a big deal?

Seriously.
"There is no way Omar has a job next year..."
How much do you wanna bet?
I get being mad the Mets suck, and Omar has made some weird decisions, but if Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, Maine, Perez hadn't been hurt all year with Wright having the worst season of his career, somehow I doubt that we are here discussing Minaya's job, and it certainly isn't his fault that 3 of his top 4 are down and the other is having a bad season (for his standards).

The issue people are questioning is not "look at how good of a team he can build," but rather his reaction to a crisis. I will agree that people are scapegoating Minaya for bad luck... but if he were to spend the farm and buy a bat or an arm people will scream his squandering the future. Human nature is to find blame.

Mets fan are never happy. They bitch that they want a move done, they do and the Mets fans still bitch.

"Mets fan are never happy."
Compared to Braves fans who completely happy with the universe as is...?

Yeah, I think Minaya gets a pass for this year. With Beltra, Reyes, Delgado, Putz and Maine on the DL and Perez injured/struggling it's kind of hard to win when you're that depleted. The only thing is, is that the injuries have exposed the Mets as a poorly out together team that seriously, seriously lacks minor league depth and defensively are not fundamentaly sound.
I'm not comparing the Yanks vs the Mets or try to knock them but one thing I'll give Cashman/Girardi credit for was the teams ability to find cheap in-house solutions to most of their injured stars like Posada, Molina (Cervelli) and Arod (Pena) and to their ineffective/injured bullpen/starter by replacing Bruney, Marte, Ramirez, Albaladejo and Veras with Hughes, Aceves, Robertson and Tomko.
If anything Minaya needs to work on replinishing the quality of the backups and to stress basic fundamentals of the game like defense. YOu can excuse the lack of talent but any professional baseball player should be able to catch and throw the ball.

Believe me, nothing would make me happier then to see July 31 come and go and the Mets do nothing. The only way they are making a run at this thing (more and more unlikely every day) is if they get theiw own guys back. If they don't, no outside help is going to boost them over the top, so here is to hoping Mejia, Holt, Martinez, Flores, Niese and Thole are all still here next year.

Mets should be NL East favorites after this move.
Posted by: HumanToilet | July 11, 2009 at 03:33 PM
Manuel should get a pass for this year for half the team being on the DL but Omar should have to take the bullet.
No team could recover from losing 5 major pieces of the team but its 100% Omars fault that there was NOTHING in the franchise that even resembled a suitable replacement MLB player.
The Mets are a prime example of a loser franchise that needs to be completely gutted. They dont draft, develop, or coach well at all and need to change. There is no excuse for them to regularly perform as badly as they do.
Posted by: Zero | July 11, 2009 at 07:59 PM
i don't understand why people are bashing this move? They need a body at SS in the minors, so what, i have no problem with this move unless this is what omar was talking about when he was asked to comment on the francoeur trade and he said to expect other moves like this
Posted by: johan is GOD | July 11, 2009 at 10:41 PM
Also, i'm a mets fan but other met fans when you say the mets need to be completely gutted. or trade their core, don't just say trade them, say who you want them to get back. They aren't going to just trade wright or reyes or beltran for prospects who are unproven or players of less value. But hell if the tigers come to the mets and say give us wright we'll give you cabrera they would jump on it.

Yeah, umm, no.
Posted by: nrmax88 | July 12, 2009 at 01:18 AM
Wow, if you wouldn't do that trade then who would you suggest the mets would get for their core? And the mets wouldn't trade them for unproven prospects
Posted by: johan is GOD | July 12, 2009 at 05:42 AM
I'd take Wright over Cabrera anyday.

Typical Mets fan. Beltran and Delgado could be done forever. Delgado most likely is. Perez is not hurt, he just sucks. Reyes will return and not be as good as he was before. And Wright is the luckiest player in the MLB so how is he having the worst year of his career? Because he has less HR's?
Posted by: uthoward | July 13, 2009 at 10:11 PM
Look Berroa is playing in the game today. He was suppose to be a top prospect but never bloomed. He can bloom here. He has pop and and speed.
Posted by: metsfan4 life | July 16, 2009 at 02:06 PM
Just another bad utility infielder singed by the Mets. He provides barely any offense and okay defense. Once Reyes comes back, Berroa wont have a job. Bad move for Omar Minaya. They should just keep Cora at short he is better than Berroa. Wilson Valdez and Ramon Martinez were failures and no doubt this one will be too.
