« Mets DFA Jon Switzer | Main | Rosenthal On Lee, Holliday »
According to Peter Abraham at the Journal-News, the Yankees have designated infielder Angel Berroa for assignment to make space for utilityman Cody Ransom.
Berroa, 31, put up a rough .356 OPS in 22 at-bats for the Yanks. He's notable for his Rookie of the Year campaign for the Royals in 2003, but he's been on a pretty steep decline since then.

Good.
Berroa is awful and doesn't belong on an MLB roster. Especially not the one of a 200++ MM team.

he saved the dodgers last yr, but he isnt a MLB player anymore, IMO

He hasn't been an MLB player since 2004.

Weak bat but very good defense. He could still find a place on a team as a utility infielder.

DFA Berroa for Ransom?
Good God. That's like saying you are going to have bamboo stuffed under your nails instead of a kick to the nuts.
Crap for crap yet Grudz remains unsigned. Cashman/McFly...Hello?

I can tell you haven't seen him play in the last few years.

Can anyone else even fathom how bad you have to be for a .356ops. Only two singles in 22abs.

Yes I did. Last year for the Dodgers.
Where he had a weak bat and very good defense.

Berroa had a -4.6 UZR and -9.3 UZR/150 at Short
How can Dodger fans here really give Berroa any credit with a straight face? Hu (-0.9, -5.0) was a better SS. Maza (-0.7, -8.2,) was a better SS. Even Nomar (-4.5, -8.5,) was a better SS. Berroa was just an all around joke.

I'll always remember the bouncer to shortstop that somehow got between the two buttons in his shirt and stuck inside. Hahahah.
He was a character. He clearly was having a lot of fun on the Dodgers last year, even if he was pathetic with the bat most of the time. Not sure why a team like the Yankess picked him up, wouldn't figure he'd last there. Good luck to him wherever he ends up.
SuzysMan - Berroa did have a brief stint of 3-4 weeks where he hit about .330 for the Dodgers, when we were getting absolutely nothing out of Hu or Maza with the bat, and Nomar was injured. So, I guess we appreciate Berroa for that. And he was entertaining off the field, too.

But statistically, he was the worst fielding short stop you all used. In turn, that “very good defense” garbage should be taken to the curb. That was my point.
