Gutierrez is definitely emerging as one of the most underrated players in the game.

Gutierrez posted a +26.9 UZR/150 in Cleveland last year, and his UZR/150 is +20.7 while playing center field in Seattle this year.

He's improved his offense a lot in the past two years, and quietly he's on his way to a 4.5-5.0 WAR season thanks to the brilliant performance in center.

with names that people know like Carrasco, Drabek, Knapp, Worley Savery as well as ones that aren't as familiar now but will be eventually like Pettibone, Cloyd, Flande, DeFratus, Sampson, May Schwimmer, Rosenberg, Shreve, Cossart the phils system is very deep in pitching prospects. Now while all of them won't pan out we'll have a much better shot than in years past. Now we need some hitters to go along with Brown and Taylor, especially middle infielders.

The future of the Phils is brighter than its been for a long time and I hope they don't trade that away for a short term fix. I'll sacrifice this year so that the next 5 keep us at or near the top.

As for Baker's story... It's really sad when fans- and this guy is clearly a fan masquerading as a journalist- are unable to come to grips with the reality that their F.O. screwed the pooch and lost a deal. Gutierrez is a fine player, but Adam Jones is a budding superstar. Crunch the numbers enough and you can prove that 2x2 equals 12, but it won't change the FACT that it ain't. Get over it already! Baker himself admits that every GM in the game would take Jones over Gutierrez. Think they maybe know something? Pathetic.

Oh, and PhilsWSChamps- you gotta stop with the fringe prospects. Seriously. Carrasco is OK (though overrated). Drabek actually looks like he might be a stud. Knapp has a ton of potential as well. Worley might be a decent 4/5. Aside from those guys, you're REALLY pushing it (though I'm a fan of Heitor Correa, who you DIDN'T mention). Saying something over and over, doesn't make it any more true.

I wasn't mad, it just froze or something. As for the Phillies, I love Happ. Just something about him and his style makes me belive he has a long career ahead of him. But for tonight, it is on!

agreed that some of those kids haven't developed yet but again the article is on the "depth" of pitching the organization has which is more than its had in a long long time. If just a couple of those pan out the Phils won't have to buy too much expensive FA pitching (and also FA pitchers won't come here anyway) so we have to develop them and hopefully keep them.

Pettibone was a 2nd round pick we kept away from USC last year, Cloyd and Flande just moved up and the others have potential. no harm in mentioning them as that's what its about. Again all of them won't pan out but if some do then we'll be ahead of the curve.

If the Dodgers really want pitching, how 'bout Jeremy Guthrie? I half-kidding, of course, since the O's need at least one veteran pitcher on the team as they start turning their rotation over to the kids (Tillman, Arrieta, Matusz, etc.), plus LA probably wouldn't part with anything the O's are anxious to acquire (I'm looking at you, Dee Gordon). Still, Guthrie could be a guy we hear about more and more over the next month or so, given the plethora of young arms in the O's system and the needs of some contenders. Just a thought.
