Would the Dbacks or Padres want more from the Rockies because they're in the division, or would it not change anything because both teams are out of it?

Royals have a bunch of relievers not named Soria who are sorta decent that could be dealt. Would the Rox deal Spilborghs or Quintanilla?

The Rockies would be very wise to deal Atkins. They probably won't catch the Dodgers and need to play beyond this season. They could load up now and have lots of young talent.

Heck, I forgot they had Matt Murton. How bout Murton for Robinson Tejada? Or Ron Mahay?

How about Meredith for Ianetta?
Posted by: ImRonBurgundy? | July 01, 2009 at 04:34 PM
Are you kidding? Ianetta is a young, rising star at a premium position. Meredith is an average reliever putting together a decent season.

I think he WAS kidding, B3NG4L.

FYI, Cla meredith is pretty terrible. The fans in San Diego can't wait to see him leave. Everyone in the national league has figured this guy out, he is a decent reliever at best now. His era might not be terrible, but he has allowed over 80% of his inherited runners to score. If we could get any talent back in return that would be a huge plus for the padres.

"The Rockies would be very wise to deal Atkins. They probably won't catch the Dodgers and need to play beyond this season."
They don't need to catch the Dodgers. They're only two games off the wildcard pace. I doubt they'll be dealing Atkins just yet - unless it's for pitching that can help immediately (not a prospect).

They need to trade someone because whether they're buyers or sellers, they have six quality outfielders and they also need to figure out the third base situation. I can understand if they want to platoon one position, but there's still a lot of players collecting dust.

I'm curious how Baker returns. If they trade Atkins before Baker returns, who is the backup 1B?
I'm sure it was a joke, but I'm getting tired of the requests for Ianetta (and Stewart) especially when it comes from entitled BoSox fans.
Anyway, speaking of Boston, Torrealba, Atkins, and Spilborghs all seem to fill a spot well there...so how about those 3 for Lester...lol? Or those 3 for Penny and you pick up the salary on everyone lol?

Hawkins isnt available now? Why not and since when?
Posted by: socalbsbl | July 01, 2009 at 06:43 PM
Astros have said that Hawkins is not available. Rockies are gonna have to look elsewhere.
Posted by: FriarFaithful | July 01, 2009 at 07:18 PM
atkins for saito and javier lopez purely due to the fact that hesa hitter that combined with drew could help make the bottom half of the sox order difficult to get through and it also gives the sox some dependability on how he'll produce day to day

Suuure...can Ed Wade really say with a straight face that LaTroy Hawkins is untouchable? Pretty funny.

I just think that the potential wild card presents a different scenario as far as trade discussions. Being 5 up in your own division is different than being in the middle of a 6 team wild card dog pile. Are you trading FOR the postseason, or to GET there?

"Saito for Atkins is the best I would offer."
Atkins really isn't worth Saito midtown.
Saito has a club friendly option for next year, while Atkins is making 7m this year and is arbitration eligible next year and hits horrible outside of Denver. Only way they get Saito for Atkins, is if Denver pays the full ride of what is left on his salary this year at least and then, sweetens the deal with another good prospect for taking Atkins off of their hands.
