So if I read that right, I'll guess about $9 million of that $15 million is used to re-sign Byrd and Pudge (and it's likely I'm underestimating what those signings would take). That leaves $5 million - $6 million for a starter, LH reliever, etc. Not too encouraging.

I think you're in the ballpark there, which is a shame because of where they could be with another 5-10 in addition to that. Having players like mccarthy, holland, feliz, hunter and maybe harrison fighting over 2 rotation spots instead of 3 would not only make them better, but would be a huge depth bonus over a long season. After that a go to arm would be a huge relief to see in the late innings
a lineup of
borbon
andrus
young
hamilton
cruz
kinsler
byrd
davis/smoak
salty/teagarden/pudge?
Murphy 4th OF/DH
besides byrd and cruz who had career years everyone else was right on par or under performed. relying on them to improve is obviously risky but i doubt the lineup production would be worse

Let Byrd walk, and don't give Pudge more than a million. Better yet, let him walk. They have 3 young catchers to work with.

can't let Byrd walk. one of the most underrated OF's in the league, and fits perfect with that team

Byrd is suited to be playin in center/left field next year for the Braves. Good glove good bat and a good team member that will come pretty cheap for what you get. Exactly what Wren is looking for after re-signing Laroche and Gonzo and letting Soriano go. Im calling it right now. I guess it depends on what they think schafer and Hayward can contribute at teh beging on next year. Braves are gonna have some room and money after dealing one of the surplus pitchers or not re-signing Huddy which I think they will and he will agree to a 2 year 18.5 million deal after the 12 million option isn't picked up.

Let Pudge walk the pitching was worse after we traded for him, Resign Bird for no more than 2 year. Trade B McCarthey and a prospect or two for B Webb. Or sign either Pineiro, Sheets or Harden (who ever is the best value for the money) Pineiro was the best ground ball pitcher in the game.

mccarthy and what for webb???? no talent that the rangers would be willing to give up would be enough for webb who will be going into a contract year unless it is reworked this offseason.
I don't know that I'd play byrd in center everyday but the fact that he can combined with 20 hr and 90 rbi is going to put a hefty tag on him unfortunately, or at least give him all the power at the table.
I wouldn't wish the heartbreak that is going to accompany the signings of pineiro or randy wolf on my worst enemy.

Oh boy a person I can break...first off the, "Brandon Webb is on a contract year." Means it should cost LESS to obtain him not MORE. I dont know about you but im willing to pay more for a guy I get for 3 years in contrast to someone I get for one year. Second off your saying you wouldn't want Joel Pineiro on anyone. Oh yeah no one wants a guy who was put on a team that had a decent offense and okay fielding and going 200+ innings and holding an ERA of 3.49 thats something NO ONE wants. Ill leave it at that...
