Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic brings home a bunch of Diamondbacks hot stove buzz from the GM Meetings...
- The Diamondbacks would have to give up their second-round pick if they sign a Type A free agent who turned down arbitration. GM Josh Byrnes told Piecoro he'd consider it if the player came at a discount. You can check our free agent list to see all the types.
- Piecoro wouldn't be surprised to see Livan Hernandez return as the D'Backs' fifth starter. He wouldn't be the main rotation pickup; the bigger targets are probably Randy Wolf, Jason Marquis, and Brad Penny.
- Piecoro can't find a team that would be able to send the D'Backs a pitcher for catcher Chris Snyder. The Royals, Mets, Reds, Brewers, and Astros don't fit, in Piecoro's opinion, while the Blue Jays already nixed a deal. The Rays, Nationals, Mariners, and Giants may also be looking for a catcher, but they might not match up either.
- The D'Backs would like to bring back arbitration-eligible infielder Augie Ojeda.
They should go after Arroyo or Harang

The Sox could send them Sweaty Freddy Garcia for Snyder and some cash. That would by time for their prospects to develop.

Derek Lowe for CoJack.
Of course we would then not offer him arbitration and sign him to a cheap incentive laden deal.
Just think of it as you are getting Lowe for FREE!! You aren't going to offer him arbitration anyways, so get a 15 win pitcher FREE!!! ....please?

Hate to even contemplate it, but Eric Byrnes for DLowe? Two bad contracts, with the Braves' enticement being they'd be stuck with Byrnes for only one season. The D-Backs' motivation? Lowe might be a better pickup than the other guys they're considering.

MLB in the know, I was actually just about to suggest that. Saves the Braves 10 mil, and isn't to expensive for ARZ, where Lowe would be a good fit as a GB pitcher. No real need for another backup catcher, but he could potential play 3rd and 1st off the bench if he is put in as anything more than PH. Pluss having the extra catcher on the roster would give Cox more reason to let Ross PH, which he seemed to be quite good at.

So how bout Byrnes and Jackson for Lowe?

Must not be dback fans.
Ok, no were not giving up Jackson for Lowe. Jackson looks as if he'll be our 1B in 2010 since he's hitting .367 in the dominican league as Brandon Allen , our "1B of the future" hitting a measly .160 in the AZ fall league.
Lowe is just so-so IMO.
Now u want snyder + byrnes and we'll eat 80% of his contract? Then maybe we can talk.
Giving up co-Jack makes no sense.

I'm not sure how the D-Backs money pool is, but if they-re looking for a good trade, try to get Gil Meche. Upside is good, and they wouldn't have to give up too much.

I believe we only had $22-26M prior to webbs $8.5M if I remember correctly. And we need at least a SP and RP and maybe 1B/2B help.
Owners need to open their pocket books a touch if they wanna get all that with just $14-18M to work with.

If they could get rid of dead weight like Byrnes and Snyder and get a pitcher that would be great. Hopefully Mulvey and Schlereth will develop
