« Rosenthal And Morosi On Yankees, Vizquel, Bradley | Main | Twins' Extension Talks For Joe Mauer Have Not Begun »
There was a throng of Japanese media at the GM Meetings, seemingly in the hunt for Hideki Matsui news the majority of the time. NPB Tracker's Patrick Newman has more today, after yesterday's Red Sox report was misinterpreted and repeated around the web...

I, along with Newman, would like matsui in pale hose.

At first, I wasn't sure if the word "Reports" in your headline was being used as a noun or a verb. Thought maybe Hideki had "reported" to Tampa, to get a REALLY BIG jump on Spring Training!
Anyway, here's hoping the Yanks keep him in pinstripes where he belongs.

I really hope the Yankees somehow pull a surprise and bring Matsui back on a 1-year deal. That would be ideal, but I doubt he accepts that.
Regardless, I'd offer arbitration. If he accepts, then we have him for a year (yeah, we'd be overpaying, but it's better to overpay for 1 year than try to ink him and his bad knees for 3 years). If he declines and signs elsewhere, we get draft picks!

Wouldn't mind seeing Matsui, Thome, or Dye be DH next year, as long as KW's plans don't stop there.
Feel free to bash my stoner fantasy 2010 Line-up/Out of my Ass trade offer ha:
I'd like us to offer a package of Konerko + Jenks (possibly Kotsay if need be, not saying he is a deal breaker) and whatever farm guys necessary/logical to make a trade with the Padres for Adrian Gonzalez (and Eckstein if we don't resign Podsednik. Roughly a 0% chance but I think we could come up with the players to make them at least entertain the idea.
Just my dream Line Up in a Perfect World be that these signings happened but won't:
2B Eckstein
3B Beckham
RF Quentin
1B Gonzalez
DH Matsui
CF Rios
LF Teahan
C Pierzynski
SS Ramirez
or better yet, even more assinine:
3B/LF Figgins
SS Beckham
RF Quentin
1B Gonzalez
DH Guerrero/Thome/Matsui
CF Rios
LF/3B Teahan
C Pierzynski
2B Ramirez
Most realistic:
LF Podsednik
SS Beckham
RF Quentin
1B Konerko
DH Thome
CF Rios
3B Teahan
C Pierzynski
2B Ramirez
Hey, wait a minute, that's the same team plus Teahan!!
Surprise us Kenny (in a good way)!!

There is no way that the Mets front office is nuts enough to pick up an aging-injury prone Matsui to play the outfield at Citi. They've done some dumb stuff in their time, but that would be beyond crazy.

matsui could be an Angel.

the rays getting him would be a good move cause he's proven he can handle the DH role in the AL East, but what would Burrell bring back if they traded him cause it wouldn't be for a DH to replace him

At this point i would even trade pat burrell for a pair of cleets.

The picture in my head of Matsui in a Rays uniform makes me laugh.

there is no way in hell Matsui will not be a Yankee next year; for a million reasons, most importantly to the Yankee$ the money he draws from the Japanese fanbase.
