Earlier today we learned that Mariners' GM Jack Zduriencik is looking forward to having Felix Hernandez around for the next two years, but the rumors don't stop there...

so, in other words, Jarrod Washburn won't be a Mariner.
I can't see the M's outbidding others over a pitcher who's pretty damn bad.

And I'd think that if the M's are going to spend upwards 100MM on a pitcher, that pitcher should be Felix, not Lackey. Yes, Felix is going to cost much more than Lackey, but if Lackey gets Burnett money, giving Felix a massive extension is still much smarter.

Please bid for Washburn. The Twins dont need that fool.

Matsui just makes so much sense for them in my mind. Lefty power hitter, DH, west coast.
Bedard also makes sense unless the Padres or Nationals swoop in where they can offer the NL and big ballparks to help him re-establish his value.

Agreed drchstrpunk. Definitely an upgrade over Sweeney.

How about they sign the new "white" Sammy Sosa!
Google Sosa skin bleaching if you don't know what I mean.

Speaking of which ive always meant to ask a M's fan. Ive heard Jose Lopez does not fit the M's newer gameplan. Does anyone from the M's fan base think he could be had in a reasonable trade? And if so what would the M's most likely be looking for in return?

Lopez's value as a hitter is smashed by Safeco Field. He would be much more valuable to another team, which is why a trade makes sense. The M's would probably be looking for a longterm solution at SP, SS, 2B, 1B, or 3B.

What do you think of a Fransisco Liriano and 1-2 decent prospects for Jose Lopez? The Twins have seemed to want a solid hitting 2b for awhile.

Liriano would be an interesting fit, but Seattle already has a lot of pitchers like him. We have going into camp next year something like 12 pitchers capable or have started for the big league club. We really need a 1B/3B. We have outfield depth on the immediate basis, and Truinfel for 2B/SS, but Tui isn't likely to be a long term solution at 3B. So a 1B/3B masher with avg-to-good defense would be nice.

M's would most likely look for TOR pitcher........i.e. John Danks from the White Sox, Matt Cain from SF, Billingsly from LAD
Just some examples for you, I know Im gonna get ripped by WSox, Giants, and Dodger fans now!!!

BTW, Im talking about for Lopez....not necessarily straight up, but in in muli player trade (like Lopez & Morrow and a prospect for one of the above)
Just to clarify

Dude, I highly doubt Matt Cain is going anywhere anytime soon... especially for as little as Lopez, Morrow and a prospect. He's on a different level above both Danks and Billingsley

Branyan's season was a fluke, I mean I love the guy but he wont produce like that again. Not in Safeco. I especially don't want Bedard or Washburn. Bedard is the definition of injury prone and Washburn got lucky in the first half of the season. Expect the second half of his performance. We should consider ourselves lucky enough to have at least gotten Luke French out of the deal. We don't need any pitching. Pick five starters out of what we have; Hernandez, Snell, Rowland-Smith, Fister, French, Morrow, Olson, Vargas, Jakubauskus and yes, sadly Silva. Quit it with those rumors. We aren't trading Lopez, drop that too. Carp should take over at first, not quickly but by mid-season. Have Hannahan play first like he was at the end of the year. Find a DH, Matsui would be nice but I don't see that ever happening. We need a 3B and LF for sure. Bay would be nice, more than likely he won't even be interested. Not too many options there. 3B, whose available; Beltre, Figgins, Uribe and trade possibilities like Kouzmanoff. Doubt those as well. So, what do we do? Just keep playing without both positions? More than likely. We do have Hall but he already can't hit and Safeco makes it worse. DAMN!
