Burrell in LF and Guillen in RF? Poor Andres Torres.

Lilly has been Hendry’s best free agent signing back in the Cub spending spree days. I hope Hendry can get a fair deal and move him though. This team has to move forward and lose salary.

If a good deal is not reached by someone soon, then go into the offseason and offer arbitration. Lilly will be offered a 2-3 year deal somewhere and the Cubs would get the picks. On the chance he accepts the one year arbitration, then having him back for another year would not be the worse thing. I’d rather have Lilly’s salary back for another year and see if the Cubs were willing to eat a portion of another contract and move them…say Zambrano or Fukudome…someone. But moving Lilly is the easiest option.

The only thing I worry about with Hendry moving players at the deadline is that he rarely if ever seems to get top notch prospects back. The best he’s done iirc is getting what he did for DeRosa, and even then they weren’t high end prospects but rather middle reliever types. Hendry seems to deal out of necessity and haste rather than studying the market and getting the most in return. Salary relief is fine but a good trader should also get value back. If Lilly goes, and I think he should, hopefully Jim has him positioned as one of if not the best available option on the market.

Really? Guillen is more attainable than DeJesus? If the White Sox wanted to just take Guillen and his salary like they did with Rios, they probably could. Only this one they’d regret.

I wish Dayton Moore would say this:

“We will pay all Jose’s remaining salary and you give us any one player in your system”.

Enough already. Get him out.

Jenks will be back on the market sooner than later if santos/ putz/ and thonrton keep pitching like they are. Jenks has had a good season, only blowing one save and he could be a guy that gets us a nice starting pitcher or left handed bat if packaged with someone else

Go Mo! Get Uggla, the Cardinals seem some infield help there. Just get the pair of Dan’s available in Uggla and Haren and win it this year.

I’d like to see Haren with the Cards, but I would think the farm system would be pretty thin already with all the trades they’ve made in the last few years. That’s speculation, anybody else know what they have down there?

still talent down their. and they had a very very solid draft. if the right player became available, they might make an offer.

that said, Haren isn’t that player.

as far as trades are concerned for this year, you just can’t consider guys drafted this year as they are not eligible to be traded until they have been in your organization for one year. It’s much to early to try to move them as a PTBNL

Kelly Johnson is one of the most over-rated players right now, and Uggla shouldn’t play 2nd base.

agreed, he hould either DH in the AL or be a 1stbasemen

I would say Braun has more trade value than anyone; an elite hitter who has 5 more years on his contract at a very low price (for the calibre of player he is)…

Longoria’s under a team friendly contract that has cheap club options until he’s 30 and offers a lot of defensive value in addition to his bat. I love Braun, but no, he doesn’t have more trade value than anyone.

Yeah Joey Votto would cost the moon probably in my mind and probably in Jockety’s too. Don’t even know why a anyone would even talk about trading Votto cause I will tell you right now unless you gave us the best prospects in baseball I don’t think you would even have a chance of acquiring him, so why even bother speculating. Geez I hate the Trade Deadline.

no one has said those guys are being traded. the writer did an evaluation … basically, he is saying these guys, with their contract situations and talent, are the best bargains in baseball. if i owned a baseball team and could trade for one position player it would be ryan braun.
