Jay Payton? Happy? Go figure.
start_wearing_purple
I didn’t even realize he was still in the game.
Dave_Gershman
At least the future doesn’t look brought.
Craig Cutler
When you have 103 years of misery, the future always looks bright in comparison to the past.

If the Red Sox extend their winning streak to seven more games, the Yankees will have to sweep the Blue Jays, in Toronto, in order to get into the playoffs. One loss, the Red Sox tie, two losses, they are out..and finish third.
Go Red Sox..
Dave_Gershman
There is a very, very strong chance that the Red Sox don’t win every one of the their remaining games.
Fangaffes
Quite true, but it would be a nice change for the Yankees to play the Mets’ role this year.
Dave_Gershman
No, it would be an incredible change!
I would seriously love the Red Sox to de-throne the Yankees of the wild card, and I’m not saying it won’t happen, I just said the Sox won’t win every remaining game they have.
Vmmercan
So then you have more confidence the Yankees will lose out? Because that would have to be the alternative.
hawkny1
I know you are absolutely correct….but thinking so helped me get through the weekend
Dave_Gershman
I really have to say his, but I hope everyone saw what happened towards the end of the Brewers game with Prince Fielder and Trevor Hoffmann, well I thought it was one of the best touches and one of the best, and emotional moments of this whole season.

Huh…..Mosley was supposed to start tonight. Desperation is a stinky colon, eh Yank fans?
Vmmercan
The Yankees have used all of their long men in the last four days…So it was either start Mosley and have Hughes be the emergency long man, or start Hughes and have Mosley be the long man.
What would you have done?
Henry Castellanos
Starting Hughes was actually the right thing to do at that time. It was his last start of the season anyway, he’ll be shut down for the last week of baseball.
Vmmercan
So then we’re in agreement?
The Yankees covered themselves and played to logic tonight. Rather than risk Mosley and have Hughes come in if he was crushed, they started Hughes with Mosley in reserve. Now, because Hughes pitched well and especially because the Yankees eventually won, both Mosley and Vazquez are unused and ready to spot start the final six games while the Yankees align their rotation.
Henry Castellanos
Very much needed win. I barely had any nails left after Rob Cano tied it in the ninth.

Sleepykarl
Desperation would be starting CC on short rest. It was Hughes scheduled day anyway. No worries.

I thought Dustin Moseley was starting tonight
