Reds Re-Sign Corky Miller

The Reds announced that they re-signed Corky Miller to a minor league deal after the catcher cleared waivers, refused an outright assignment and elected free agency. The 34-year-old batted .243/.282/.392 in 79 plate appearances for the Reds in 2010.

Miller threw out 27% of would be base stealers while backing up Ramon Hernandez and Ryan Hanigan. The ten-year MLB veteran figures to take on a similar role for the Reds in 2011.

  1. Easily the best facial hair in baseball currently. He came through in some pretty clutch moments for us last year and is always nice to have for a 3rd option (or 2nd string if Hernandez doesn’t come back.)

  2. How many 34-year olds go by the name “Corky”?

Corky was my favorite player while in the Red Sox minor league system, so I’m glad to see he made the site!

  4. championship!

  5. Welcome back Corky! I really hope he isn’t the 2nd-string catcher tho, that would suck.

Is it me, or am I missing something here… He refused an outright assignment, yet, signed a minor league deal? What’s up with that?!

    • It’s just for bookkeeping. You’ll see that 100 times this off-season. It’s all bookkeeping.
