Brewers Sign Jay Gibbons

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | February 22, 2012 at 4:01pm CDT

The Brewers signed outfielder Jay Gibbons to a minor league deal, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (on Twitter). Agent Bo McKinnis represents the 34-year-old, who played in the Brewers' organization in 2008,

Gibbons appeared in 24 games for the Dodgers last year, playing both corner outfield positions and posting a .255/.323/.345 line in 62 plate appearances. He has a .258/.318/.460 career line against right-handed pitching.

This comment is about as horrible as the Houston Astros organization are as a whole.

My first reaction?  I thought I followed baseball well, yet I thought Gibbons retired about 4 years ago.  I need to shape up.

My friend was in the 2010 Triple-A Home Run Derby (as a high school senior) & had more HRs than Gibbons had

I read all the comments in surprise that people had commented on Jay Gibbons being signed.  This guy was terrible in his prime now he’s old.

After reading through the comments on the post, I’ve seen more comments removed than posted.  Please, it’s a minor league signing.  If he produces and gets called up fantastic.  If not, I don’t know if any of you will start burning your Nashville Sounds jerseys and say, “My life is over…I have nothing to live for…I’m going to switch allegiances and start following the Indianaplois Indians.”  Drama queens.
