Indians To Sign Cristian Guzman

The Indians will sign infielder Cristian Guzman to a minor league contract with a spring training invite, tweets MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.  He took his physical today and the deal will likely become official tomorrow.

Guzman, 33, last played in the Majors in 2010 with the Nationals and Rangers.  He sat out the 2011 season due to a shoulder injury, he told Bastian.  Guzman is a career .271/.307/.383 hitter who has appeared at both middle infield positions.

Doesn’t get on base. Can’t field. Good luck with that. Although I hope the family issues were cleared up. That’s never good.

I was no joke coming into the comment section to say that imo Guzman is a better signing than Cabrera was.

This move should strike fear into the hearts of the rest of the AL Central.

They are going to have a killer AAA ballclub.

I like the acquisition. Guzman is a solid player and should help off the bench. He can play multiple positions, switch hit, and is a vet who has been around to help the young guns in Cleveland. Nothing wrong with this minor league deal at all. I am glad Guzman is getting another chance and am somewhat perplexed as to why more teams weren’t after him.

Didnt he play in the independent leagues last year? If so what were his stats like.

Either way, I am not really sure why they signed him but its the Indians which also means it falls into the “meh whatever” section for me.

Used to have the best beard in baseball; then Brian Wilson had to ruin it for everybody…
