Orioles Sign Miguel Tejada

The Orioles have signed Miguel Tejada to a minor league contract, reports Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com. The SFX client served as the designated hitter in an Extended Spring Training game today.

Tejada, 37, contacted the Orioles about rejoining the team and they agreed to give him a look. He passed a physical yesterday and will remain in Extended Spring Training to work out. Tejada hit just .239/.270/.326 in 343 plate appearances with the Giants last season before being released in September. He spent 2004-2007 and the first half of 2010 with Baltimore, hitting .305/.354/.481 overall.

The contract probably allows Miguel to continue to reside in the United States. Without a job he probably would have to move back to the Dominican Republic, his home country, within 6 months.

I really don’t see how signing Tejada helps this team.
Yeah, it’s probable for chump change, but he would be gobbling up a roster spot that could be used for someone else, someone better. Stop gaps are for the birds, not the Orioles. I wish Duquette would do something bold here, maybe it would grab the attention of the fans who are not attending tonight’s game. I know the weather is snoggy, but to have a team like the Texas Rangers visiting OPACY,┬áplus a winning record and to have that kind of fan support (nil). There’s a problem somewhere.

kids arent out of school yet most clubs struggle with attendance if its this bad in a month then that comment works and nows not the time to do something drastic closer to the deadline or the offseason is the time
