Twins Designate Matt Maloney For Assignment

The Twins announced via Twitter that they have designated left-hander Matt Maloney for assignment.  The move, along with their demotion of Danny Valencia to Triple-A, will allow the club to promote Darin Mastroianni and select the contract of right-hander P.J. Walters.

Minnesota first acquired the 27-year-old off of waivers from the Reds last Halloween.  Maloney didn’t impress in his limited opportunities this year as he allowed ten runs with five strikeouts and a walk in eleven innings.

PJ Walters to rotation, Liriano to pen, Valencia to Roch, student body left to third base.

    About time…

    • I don’t trust Liriano in the bullpen. Either send him to Triple-A, or DFA him. I’m sure some team would have interest in him.

Personally, I hope they play Carroll at third regularly. I think he can certainly be a steadying influence for the infield. Meanwhile, it is an understatement to say that the Twins have hit rock bottom…I hope this is the bottom, anyway.

Wow, things got really ugly fast for the Twins. Wasn’t long ago they were a very good team now it looks like a full scale rebuild needs to be done.

It might turn out to be a good thing for them

Cuddyer, Kubel, Nathan, etc. gone…….and a severely impaired Morneau, a diminished Mauer…..a traded Ramos….etc., etc., etc…….how do we count the ways of the decline….

  5. Look how well Garza and Loshe are pitching. These guys were not “Gardy’s Favorites” Maybe it is time to get rid of Gardy…

You need to stop listening to Kfan, but since you get your news/opinions from the radio I’ll let you in on a little secret, Lohse hasn’t pitched for the Twins since 2006 (and he wasn’t good with them). Stop blaming Gardy about a pitcher the Twins gave up 6 years ago who is having a good month.

      • Ha, Loshe was good right after he left the Twins, along with Ortiz, Bartlett etc…. Where do you get your info Sid?

Btw I live in Denver – from MN originally,  I havent listened to PA and Dubay ( I smoked weed with Dubay back in the day) for years. They still do Rube Chat?

  6. Darin Mastroianni and P.J. Walters are both former Blue Jays who both only played one game for the big league club.

Carroll and Plouffe and Casilla and, well, anyone else who has played infield. No one from Rochester, so watch the wires in the coming weeks.

I would guess the majority would go to Carroll. Mastroianni is usually an OF but they have been playing him at 2B in AAA recently.  Don’t think they would surprise him and play him at 3rd, but who knows.

Carroll’s D has been good at 2nd and SS, should be able to handle 3rd fine, but I would miss his ability to turn a DP from either side.
