Astros Pushing Hard For Jose Veras

5:19pm: The Astros have a lot of offers out and are no closer with any one pitcher than another, including Veras, tweets Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle.

3:58pm: The Astros are pushing hard for Jose Veras and could get a deal done today, tweets's Brian McTaggart. Veras was candid yesterday in explaining to McTaggart a strong desire to return to Houston, noting that he considers it home after loving his experience there in the first four months of the 2013 season.

Veras posted a 3.02 ERA with 8.6 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 in 62 2/3 innings between the Astros and Tigers, collecting a career-high 21 saves along the way. The right-hander has also drawn interest from the Rockies this offseason.

Though he started off a little shaky, I’d like to see him back in our bullpen… For the right price.

How about a 1 year/4 mil contract… sounds reasonable to me…

if they want him so bad. why did they trade him in the first place?

1. It’s Veras that apparently wants to come back to Houston so bad. Astros have other options.
2. They traded him to get prospects for the rebuild. So they got their prospects, and now they might get him back anyway, instead of just hanging onto him and not getting any prospects.

Trade away a solid reliever for a prospect and get him back after the season. Most brilliant move in baseball.

Veras pitched well for us last year. And he’ll have a better team to pitch for this time around.
