Orioles Re-Sign Alexi Casilla

The Orioles have announced that they've re-signed infielder Alexi Casilla to a minor-league deal with a spring training invite. The O's declined their option on Casilla in November after he hit .214/.268/.295 in 125 plate appearances last season.

Casilla, who can play shortstop, second base and third base, could be a candidate for a bench job in Baltimore in 2014. He has a lifetime .248/.302/.332 line in parts of eight seasons, seven of them with the Twins.

Another World Series move by DD and Angelos.

This is actually a very good move by the Orioles. Alexi is a very good bench player, with excellent defense and speed.
I would much rather have him manning second than the defensive Horror that is Jemile Weeks.

Yes, he’s a very good bench player. But we’ve signed 7 very good bench players this offseason. None of which fill holes.

As far as I can tell, the only two real holes remaining are LH DH and another innings-eating SP for the rotation, and there’s still plenty of time to address those needs.

don’t forget closer… the in-house candidates are not compelling

    Will he pass the physical?
Actually, if he does, it might be the best free agent move this off-season! =P

Nice depth signing, and there’s no such thing as too much depth.
