Any team that gives him a multi-year deal will regret it unless it’s a decently low AAV. Would much rather give him a deal like what he netted with the Dodgers this offseason.
Slipknot37
Good thing is he’s healthy unlike the years before
theo2016
Theres still time for him to get hurt… but in all seriousness if he stays healthy its probably a mccarthy type deal, dont see anyone doing 5 years. 3/42 or so sounds right.
Slipknot37
I was thinking he’d be doing 1 or 2 year deals
cookiemonster
he very well might. just risky

I could see a deal like that with some kind of clause similar to the league minimum option that was attached to Lackey’s contract.. One healthy season isn’t going to restore faith in Anderson’s health.. He is the epitome of the term injury prone..

Agree !

OMG…Charlie…pass the Koolaid!!
Are you kidding me with these metrics.
This guy gives up better than a hit an inning and you rave about his ground ball rate?????
The guy doesn’t go long in games, and is injury prone and you make him sound like Nolan Ryan.
shame on you…we expect more in articles on MLB Rumors.

I can’t disagree more with the spin on this story. By what theory are a fractured foot, a broken finger, and a herniated disc, medically related conditions? Statically? The difference between an acute and a chronic medical problem always seems to get lost in these stories, but obviously it wasn’t lost on the Dodgers. So no, not everyone predicted that Anderson would be injured this year, with any more likelihood than any other pitcher. The “cautionary tale” of McCarthy is also a poor example. Yes, he’s been injured before — but nothing medically related to the one he had this year. Now if you’d cited Ryu as an injury risk, that might have been a point, since the shoulder problems that sidelined him for the season have occurred in his past. Yes, that is what is called a chronic medical issue. Those are the kind you worry about recurring. The others are acute.

Re: McCarthy, I agree with you, and I changed the post to reflect that. He did have some elbow issues as a young player, but they were far enough in the past that they probably weren’t particularly relevant.

Thanks for taking notice of my comment. Though I have to ask, why do you agree with me on McCarthy but not on Anderson? Short of some theory about how those last three injuries were medically related, it should be said that he’s been unlucky, and maybe the Dodgers should be given some credit for figuring that out.

A guy with a 3.82 FIP and 6.0 K/9 rate just isn’t that good a pitcher to begin with, unless he had put up those numbers every year before for the previous 5 years over 200 IP a year. But then there’s the fact he’s made of glass. Any team that gives him more than 2 years is digging their own grave.
BlueSkyLA
Made of glass. Is that a medical condition?

The Guys a Number Four or Five Starter , even when he’s healthy !
