Loria strikes me as enough of an idiot that he’d be prone to firing Mattingly after 100 games because he hadn’t won 446 games yet…
BlueSkyLA
He was fired in LA for winning three straight division titles and doing what he was told, so that kind of stuff is everywhere.

Yeah, good point…

Probably a decent hire if they keep patience and dont expect playoffs next year.

Good luck Donnie, L.A. Wasn’t the place for you

“While the team didn’t win a postseason series under Mattingly, he recorded a winning record in each of his five seasons and was generally well-regarded by his players.”
They did win the League Division Series against Atlanta in 2013.

Gah. I have no idea where my brain was for that. Thank you. Updated.

Love Mattingly hate Loria, I mean at least Don can go to beach or something.

Take McGuire but leave Reneke, Lopes and Honeycutt please

Won’t criticize this hire as I have others. Marlins have a credible history of giving opportunities to minorities unlike other organizations. Don Mattingly was in a “no win” situation in LA. Hope it works out.

I was hoping Girardi would be fired and Mattingly hired in NY. Oh well, good luck in Florida Donnie. I still think you were the right manager for the job in NY back when Torre was fired.

The news out of LA this morning is Mattingly wants to take Wallach and Honeycutt with him to Miami, so that’s probably going to happen unless the Dodgers hire Wallach as their manager. Since the Dodgers’ decision is unlikely before the Marlins make their coaching moves, we can say goodbye to decades of dugout experience in LA. But they can be replaced with less experienced tools of the FO so it’s all good.
