Here's a new one: could Roy Oswalt be traded in the next 18 hours?
According to the Baltimore Sun:
"Several industry sources confirmed the Orioles and Astros are negotiating dealing Tejada for third baseman Morgan Ensberg, shortstop Adam Everett and Oswalt, 28, who has already won 91 major-league games."

The O's have said they are looking for established Major Leaguers in return for their superstar shortstop, and Oswalt fits the bill. Baltimore would have to have competitive designs for the 2007 season, as Oswalt is a free agent after that.
According to Value Over Replacement Player, Oswalt has been the fourth best pitcher in the league this season. Last year he ranked fifth in VORP. It's tough to see how the Astros would win this year with no dependable starters behind Roger Clemens. Perhaps a Rodrigo Lopez type pitcher would come to Houston in the unlikely event Oswalt is dealt.

no way the Astros should add Oswalt to that deal...he's one of the top young pitchers in the game!

That rumor is a joke. If the Astros were going to deal Oswalt for Tejada, they shouldn't have to deal Ensberg and Everett as well. They could conceivably get a guy like A-Rod for that package. Especially considering the Gourriel defection.

What do you think will happen to the Orioles dead weight? Rodrigo and Javy Lopez, Hawkins, Conine?

I think the dead weight will all be moved somewhere. The Orioles won't get much in return besides a little salary relief.

I realize that Tejada is "a guy like A-Rod"... but Tejada having a great season like this one, is about the same as A-Rod having his worst season. Furthermore, A-Rod still might be the better shortstop, and he's making $27 mm under his current deal. Thus, he has no incentive to demand a trade and get a better contract, as Tejada does. Tejada is getting paid the same as Rafael Furcal now, and his agent is probably interested in getting his annual salary closer to $15-17 mm.

This deal would be better if it was Everett and Oswalt for Tejada. Oswalt is going to screw the Astros and goto FA in a year anyway so get rid of him while you can. They could always make a bid for him when he most likely would test FA in Baltimore.
Oswalt is one of the best pitchers in the league, and the O's want a pitcher badly. This gives them a pitcher and a SS to replace Tejada with. Nothing offensively, but hey they get one of the best pitchers in the game.
