Marlins Not Amused With Cabrera

Marlins President David Samson went out of his way last weekend to express the team's displeasure with Miguel Cabrera.  He said the team is "extremely disappointed" that Cabrera missed the team's FanFest.  In several of Samson's quotes he stresses how Cabrera was not there with his teammates.

The Palm Beach Post's Joe Capozzi has a source indicating that Cabrera skipped the event because he isn't happy being taken to arbitration over $700,000.  He'll already be accounting for a third of the payroll; you have to wonder if the Marlins are already priming fans for Cabrera's exit.  There seemed to be the same lack of professionalism prior to Joe Girardi's departure.

Cabrera is the rare young star player who may reach free agency after his first six seasons.  The Marlins have several years to sit back and wait for the offer they can't refuse.

Rather have Wright or Miggy in a keeper league?

Does any team treat its players with more transparent disregard than the Marlins? I don't blame Cabrera one bit for being cranky, and the general discontent around that team is one reason I see Florida slipping back at least a little from their 2006 performance.

I'm one of the few that thinks morneau will be better in 07 his minor league track record shows he's always hit fot a high average and always hit for power I think he'll best he 06 power numbers and keep the aveage near .310-.320

I 100% support the method in which the Marlins build championship teams but I do think they treat their studs like crap and overall its a bad idea.

A team should reward its top players not only for motivation of THAT player but for the rest of the team. There are so many young, future stars on the Marlins and if this rubs a negative vibe on them they will surely jet when free agency hits.

They are VERY lucky to have Miggy wrapped up for so long but he is their best player and should be treated that way.

sampson is a moron and shouldnt have a job only reason he does is because he is the stepson to the owner

This whole ownership group should be removed for the best interest of baseball clause.

He was insulting to the season ticket holders at fanfest and disrespectful. Yeah miggy should of been there but his attitude towards me and others there were uncalled for as well.

Every year this ownership group has more and more pissed on the season ticket holders then rails about lack of attendence and need for a stadium. It is the same routine they did in montreal. This is a Huge market if they ran it right and could easily see them becoming an amazing story. They screwed up ap otential dynasty already that was handed to them before and now they will do it again.

If they trade Miguel Cabrera, I think it is time for me to give up my season tickets and go back to the team I used to follow before 1992-93 came around in the yankees. Right now I am just rather sickend completely by how they act.

while I completely disagree that the "best" player on a TEAM should be treated any differently then the other players, the childish manner in which the Marlins management flogs their players in public for minor issues it difficult to understand on any level.

It's a wonder that any players (or managers) stick around. The Marlins remind me of the Charlie Finley era Oakland A's.

Morneau better than Cabrera if he keeps his average in the .310-.315 range? Cabrera hit .339 last year with 26 HR and 50 2B. His 159 OPS+ is much better than Morneau's 140.

Making yourself a franchise player will get you more money. If he wants to be the leader of any franchise, he should show the responsibility and maturity that an arbitration case isn't the end of the world. Don't take out your beef with the management on fans. If $700,000 isn't that big of a deal, don't whine about not getting it. You let down your teammates, coaches, management, and fans.

So... What do you think it would take to get Cabrera away from them?

haha no not morneau better than cabrera, just better than his own 2006.

More then any team would bewilling the pay, the kid is on pace for a Hall of Fame career and is cheaply signed this year and owned for 2 more years and will only be all of 26 in 2009 when he hits FA. Even then it is still debatable if he ever hits. If they get the stadium deal done (which is pretty much a done year) they will lock him up long term.

Really this is overall a non-story. The dolphins are done, the heat are a 500 right now. Pretty much the south florida writers durring that time fall back to their age old favorite report marlins news in a poor light. They dont really notice the rising number of tickets sold at the event or the great turn out, ignore the fact that beinfest stated miguel and willis will be there through 2009 when asked.

They want to take the doom and gloom storyline and run with it. They always have and always will down here(sorta like the NY writers just less intelligent even normally).

The team has been built around miguel, this is a championship caliber baseball team, moving him would be counter productive for their team.

The only way he would be moved will be 2009 season at the mid-point if they havent figured out a deal or stadium by then which is doubtful.
